Siege Hammer

"Siege Hammer" is a simple lightweight VR minigame, basically a tower defense but the developer felt TD games would be better if they had really awkward VR controls. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. This compares very poorly to other TD games on Steam, and seems to have been made VR exclusive just to try protect the game from failing that comparison by keeping it out of the hands of the majority of gamers. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $15 USD for this (!!!!). Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough …

[h1] Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers [/h1] So this game went free to play last April 2018 ... I can see why. It's just a very mediocre Tower Defense without much inspiration as far as the gameplay. A lot of the controls are just point and click, even this Siege hammer that you have on your hand. You think you can hammer it down with your motion controlllers? Nope ... I mean you can but it won't do anything in the game. You actually just laser point and click with your hammer ... seriously. That's pretty much all you do during the game. Point and click TD game. Which is sad because there was a very nice start to the game with nicely done cinematic scenes. But the gameplay is just very drab. There was no challenge at all and it was all pretty mindless. And just getting out of the first level felt very grindey. The animations weren't the best either as you couldn't really see how your defenses were doing & sometimes they looked like they were just sitting there. And there was never any sense that you might be in danger. The hardest part was just staying awake through the whole thing. Rate 5/10. It mean it is free. Could be nice for a mindless time waster.
