This title only recently became free, but even at this price I struggle to recommend it. It's the most basic of Brotato clones, with linear weapon progression, a single enemy recoloured in 4 ways, with even the movement system feeling "off" due it basically being on an invisible grid rather than true 360 degrees movement. With no unlocks, no extra stages or modes or any real permanent progression to aim for, what you see 10 minutes into Slime Mayhem is literally it - there is nothing else. Apparently the game will still get updates and paid DLCs in the future, so maybe it'll be worth a revisit then - but as of now, even if it's free, I feel like your time could be spent much better. EDIT a week or so later: So the first DLC is here, and it's a... paid weapon pack with nothing else really updated seemingly. If the solution to the game's enormous limitations is simply locking minimal changes behind paid updates, I have a bad feeling about Slime Mayhem's future. Such additions should absolutely not be paid when the core game is still so lacking. Bullet Heaven Fandom review #71. Slime Mayhem is a completely straightforward, highly barebones 2D top-down arena survival game that unfortunately functions as an incredibly shallow clone of Brotato. Spending exactly 30 minutes inside this free-to-play project is more than enough to see absolutely everything it has to offer, and it runs out of steam within the first ten minutes The core loop throws you into a single, uninspired laboratory screen where you collect chemical drops from mutant slimes during waves lasting between 20 to 90 seconds . You can hold up to 4 weapons simultaneously, working your way through a linear store progression from a simple pistol up to a minigun [INDEX]. Sadly, the mechanical flaws are immediate. The movement engine feels highly restrictive and "off" because it locks your character onto an invisible, stiff directional grid rather than allowing fluid 360-degree combat maneuvering [INDEX].There is only one base slime enemy model recolored in four different variations, and the game features zero meta-progression, permanent character upgrades, or alternative stages to unlock [INDEX]. It operates like a very raw, forgotten browser experiment. While it respects your Steam showcase by avoidi…

"Slime Mayhem" is a poorly made 2D retro top down twin stick shooter with a theme as generic as the concept of a 2D retro top down twin stick shooter. You're a square. Shoot procedurally generated waves of enemies. Try to stay awake... this is as boring and dry as watching already dry paint dry. Needless to say this was a dismal failure on Steam Direct. So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to us…

Review changed from Positive to Negative because they added a paid DLC to the game with some extra weapon while they dont updated the base game in any way. They dont made me want to buy the DLC as the base game is very shallow. Original Review: "I just barely Recommend this game, mostly because it is free and for that is an okay game. It is a very barebone Brotato kind copy (shop every wave end). There is 4 weapon slot what you can upgrade, each upgrade change the weapon (Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, AR), you also can upgrade health, speed and resource pickup amount and thats all. You have 4 character what only seems differs by color? There is only 1 enemy type so far I encountered, they just have different color based on their strenght. In setting strangely you only can change music volume. Atleast the gameplay is fluid and Im not encountered any bug yet."
