SLOWLY FIGHTER

I haven't laughed this much playing a fighting game in forever, definitely worth the price just for my friends reactions at my custom characters.

Today, I finished *Slowly Fighter* on PC through Steam. It took a total of 56 minutes to complete. An indie fighting game from Japan where the premise is simple: the martial artists in this world are so strong, that somehow, the fights need to move in slow motion, and one hit is enough to defeat their opponent. Does it make sense? No. Does it matter? Even less so. The game is ugly as sin, the characters are a deformed mass of muscle, oddly detailed face textures and barely detailed everything else. The controls are unresponsive by design, and most of the single player content ends up as a trial and error challenge to deal with the odd hitboxes and hurtboxes of the barely functional minigames, while riddled with broken animations, poor optimization and barely readable visual effects. That being said, this is some of the most fun time I've had with a fighting game, probably ever. The gameplay is deceptively simple, requiring an actual modicum of (ironically) fast decision making and matchup knowledge beyond what one would imagine a low-effort fighting game would require. If you remember Divekick this is like that but goofier and with a robust create-a-character mode that only allows you to make horrifying dudes. GOTY 2025, get in early on this one before it gets huge

Slowly Fighter sets out to accomplish one goal and one goal alone ....to be the worst fighting game of all time. Living up to it's namesake, Slowly Fighter is a painfully-slow, jerky mess of awkward move animations, nonsensical A.I., and terrible hit detection that brings to mind the Fighter Maker series from decades past. Think Virtua Fighter 1 moon jumps, the shoddy controls of Street Fighter 1, and the lackluster roster of any generic tournament fighter clone, and you'd have Slowly Fighter in a nutshell. But it doesn't end there. Matches in Slowly Fighter are reduced to single, one-hit K.O.'s. Players have to be mindful of their attacks and pay close attention to their opponent's actions. To prevent turtling and offer some semblance of strategy, the option to block is balanced with it's own energy bar. Block a hit and the meter decreases. Block two or more hits and the ability to block will become temporarily disabled; resulting in an instant K.O. on impact. The lethargic speed of Slowly Fighter becomes a major problem when attempting the game's story mode.
