Soar: Pillars of Tasneem

I want to start by saying that I think the one thing this game really gets right is the vibes. I like the chill and subtle chimes of music, and the world does have a visual charm to it with its low poly and well lit presentation. For anyone looking to buy this game, you should know what you’re buying. The first few hours of this game is an adventure collect-a-thon with other small challenges. If you’ve ever explored the world of Genshin Impact, you get a lot of the same experience exploring this world. There is unfortunately, so, so many problems with this game. I want to preface that I was playing this game maxed out on a 4080 and a 7700X. Here are a myriad of issues I encountered in my first 2 hours of gameplay. I'm also editing this as the game develops so that I can try to stay accurate to what's happening with this game. Some issues may be fixed with with their near daily patches. Or they may add more issues. I played the game off and on before release and I really enjoyed the vibe of the game. It can be a bit rough around the edges but the team is making a lot of updates and it already has gotten a lot better.

Soar is a flight sim & collectathon. It doesn't have deep puzzles or anything complex - it's just about vibing with and soaring through the environment, exploring things and clearing corruption as you go. There's no story told to you, but there are interesting environmental details that might let you put together your own. For the most part, it's a chill and relaxing exploration game. It's no masterpiece, but if that's all you want, this game will deliver. The flight takes some time to get used to, you'll have a good handle on the basics after the tutorial (I also recommend switching to the Alternative flight control style), and it'll take you a few more hours to really feel comfortable with it, but it's worth it. The flight is very satisfying, and the flight trials are fun, albeit a bit trickier than the rest of the game. My main issue with the game right now (version 1.3.4) is that there are some parts that are way harder than everything else, so you can be in the zone and get suddenly yanked out by a time trial requiring you to pick up 5 invisible dust particles in 30 seconds. I love flying around! I wanna see where this game goes!

Firstly, though there's significant emphasis on exploration, this game is puzzle-focused in terms of the progress you can hope to make; and the way these puzzles were implemented really reminded me of Sonic Frontiers. Additionally, I enjoy the game's flying mechanics BUT the on-foot trials made me wish for a slightly higher emphasis on platforming itself. As such, it goes without saying that the controls themselves feel as responsive as one could want. Definitely solid in achieving what it was aiming for. If you're looking for an opportunity to explore and watch your progress impact the areas around you in real time through the completion of puzzles, I recommend this game.

Fun! pretty smooth, simplified flight feels way way better than the recommended flight style at the moment.
