Game that socks.
3 found this helpful
Solar Shifter EX is yet another of literally hundreds of retro arcade bullet hell/shoot 'em ups infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one has almost passable graphics which is nice to see, and there's a shifting mechanism that doesn't add all that much to the game. This is an old and dead genre, and while some professional production quality went into making this, it still ends up having less than average quality gameplay, with some rather janky collisions and what ultimately is a less than enjoyable look and feel. It's also 9 years old, and while Unity does give it 4K support, it's not really enough. I'm not even sure this is a "maybe". From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. PC gamers will furthermore be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers s…2 found this helpful
Just saying, but I do have a curator page. If you like my remarks about games, you can find more of them here: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44130985-TDP%27s-Gaming-Escapades
I am going to be brutally honest from the get-go: Solar Shifter EX is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the worst shmup games I have ever played in my life. Literally any good shmup player will realize how bad this game feels like from the very first moments of starting to play it. There's a lot of things that Solar Shifter EX does wrong, making me honestly doubt if anyone on the development team has taken any other shmup game as a reference to make this, as this game is even significantly inferior to shmup games that came out in the 90s. Let me tell you why I think like this by mentioning what I witnessed in the few hours that I spent with this game:

There is no logic behind enemy/boss patterns as they never directly try to target your ship and the patterns are not understandable. The enemies just come in, target whenever they are supposed to target (which is usually somewhere far away from where your ship is) and try to leave. Not only that, sometimes the very same patt…
Outbreak is an intense and thrilling game that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The gameplay is engaging, and the graphics are impressive. I highly recommend it to fans of action and survival games!
