I only played against the A.I. and haven't yet had a chance to play against friends, but I've already got quite a few things to say about Solar Storm. First and foremost, I love how Solar Storm isn't trying to be Worms. It's doing something similar yet different, something that's more reminiscent of the super old school predecessor to Worms: Gorilla. I remember playing Gorilla when I was seven years old. It was a really basic MS-DOS game with similar rules. You pick a muzzle velocity and angle, and then try to hit the other Gorilla. You can't move the gorillas, but not being able to move them directly makes for a different kind of strategy. While Worms ultimately devolves into who can do the most gnarly ninja rope gymnastics, Solar Storm, due to your inability to move your tank directly, makes you focus on aiming the tank. Aiming and firepower are more precise than in Worms, so you are much less likely to screw up a shot by doing something stupid like holding down the space bar too long. Worms is all about mayhem, comedy, and chaos unfolding on the map. It's like a mixed drink. Solar Storm is more about aiming, precision, and focus. It's like a dark beer. I played Scorched Earth A LOT as a kid. And this game is like a new modern take on that game! The graphics are very cool, the music is great and the weapons really BLOW STUFF UP!!5 found this helpful
Solar Storm is a great game to play solo (with bots) or with friends. If you loved games like Worms Armageddon, you'll definitely enjoy this one. You control an artillery unit, equipped with devastating weapons, and the goal is to eliminate all opponents. The arenas are procedurally generated and can be destroyed by weapons or deadly disasters. Gaming sessions are fully customizable, from bot difficulty and biome types to wind settings and other options. With its unique art style, sound effects, and music, Solar Storm offers a really fun experience perfect for quick matches or extended gaming sessions.
Absolute gem of a game! I love that the local multiplayer system allows any number of people to play, regardless of available input devices. Also love the style and music - they make the game feel really polished and pleasant. At this price, it's like I'm ripping YOU off :)
Great game, great variety of mechanics. Having fun sharing a controller with my wife.
I have never had so much fun playing a turn based artillery game
