Neat idea, the music is nice, but its horribly unfun to play. Dashing refuses to take diagonal movement into account, actually shooting is not enjoyable, the UI is tough to read at times and uses the default font, the items are mostly copy paste (increase one stat but decrease another), and it runs absolutely horribly. I am running with a 3060ti with an i9-10850k under linux, and cannot get 60 fps even on medium settings. For such a small arena, it makes no sense to be running this poorly.

"Sound of Survival" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. In this case we have a bad idea implemented reasonably well... once more it's a case of "this perfectly good game format will surely be better if we hold it down and nail Dance Dance Revolution mechanics to it". This is always, always, always a terrible idea, one of the worst that game developers could ever come up with. If I wanted to play console-like DDR games, I'd play DDR. This is augmented by an upgrade sy…

For a student project (seen in one of the comments), this is a very solid and impressive game. I can definitely see how many players would enjoy it, especially considering the amount of effort and creativity that clearly went into its development. The design of the enemies and the terrain stood out to me in particular; both are well-executed and show a surprising level of polish for a school assignment. It's genuinely impressive how far a school projects can go. In terms of gameplay, while rhythm based shooters aren’t personally my favorite genre, I can still appreciate what the developers were going for. The concept of syncing your shots to the beat is creative and can definitely appeal to fans of games like Crypt of the NecroDancer or BPM: Bullets Per Minute. However, I found the experience of clicking the mouse in time with every beat a bit repetitive. That said, I can easily imagine this working really well as a mobile game something casual and engaging that you can play during your commute, like on the train. I only played a few rounds, but even early on, I found myself wondering whether the rhythm mechanic was truly essential. I think I would still have fun mindlessly blasti…
