About Space Captain McCallery - Episode 1: Crash Landing
Space Captain McCallery
In the lawless reaches of the galaxy known as the Renegade Sector...
Space Pirate Captain McCallery's crew has mutinied and left him stranded on a remote planet in this Low-Poly 3D Action-Adventure game. He must explore a strange and harsh world, battle alien lifeforms, search for food, and ultimately find a way to get back to space!
Space Captain McCallery Episode 1 is a self-contained adventure on an alien world.
Explore a Strange Alien World
Playing as Captain McCallery, you will journey across giant stone archways, travel through dark caves, and discover ancient ruins. Pay attention to your surroundings, as danger lurks behind every corner. This world is full of hidden paths and secrets to reward exploration.
Consume Alien Plants
The Captain needs to eat to survive! Be on the lookout for plants which you can consume to regain your energy. Food items can have a variety of other effects, ranging from restoring health and protecting you from fall damage, to hallucinations. Explore your environment to find rare and beneficial items!
Battle Alien Monsters

The game features fast-paced lock-on combat. Dash around your foes, dodging their attacks. Use your trusty laser gun to blast away at your enemies, or conserve your ammo by punching and throwing rocks. You'll be up against a variety of alien beings, including multiple boss fights.
Survival Mode
For those who want an extra challenge, there's Survival Mode. Survival Mode removes checkpoints from the game, and also removes enemy and item respawning. This mode requires caution and careful item-use in order to make it through.
SUMMARY
N64 without the nostalgia appeal. This game tries DESPERATELY to fix adventure game, into platformer, into shooter, into "trippy experience." While it has a comforting aesthetic to work with, using low-poly aesthetic mixed with a fantasy/sci-fi design, it fails to do anything clever, unique, or really memorable with any of it. You trapse around a bunch of narrow catwalks, harvesting plants, using rocks as a ranged weapon because of your pitiful punch, fending off ever-grander enemies, until you get the laser gun, which simplifies a lot of the mechanics and out-right erases them. The game starts off somewhat interesting with a dash instead of a jump, for you to clear gaps and move faster through the environment, and a punch which you can hurt enemies with. It will likely cause you to hurt yourself, but it's a risk. Or, you can pick up large rocks and toss them at enemies, which is far less accurate but more safe, and you have to be careful not to lose them by throwing them off ledges. This dichotomy creates an action economy which makes the game world feel more immersive for the player. You go about 10, maybe 12 minutes before you find the laser gun, and once you …1 found this helpful
It's okay, the naive frankness and spontaneity of a renegade sector game work great as always. This game is a step up from their previous game (cold vengeance) because the camera is highly improved. The music is still horrid though. The jank is part of the charm. Gameplay is correct. It's short but free. The next episodes are not free, and it's not obvious whether it's worth paying for them, so I'll let this to your appreciation.
Bricked the game on the last puzzle and had to watch the last next 5 minutes on youtube. Something as simple as the game deleting a key from your inventory after leaving the dungeon and not respawn the key should not have made it to release. The game itself is amateurish but interesting, UI was as bad as in other projects.
The heart and charm is there but the polish isn't imho. I wish there was an in-between rating because it's not like it's BAD and also I mean it's free so if it looks up your alley go for it. But for me there's just too much holding it back compared to other titles I've seen on Steam for free that are a lot more fun. It's odd to have a platformer without a jump where you have to use a dash to cross gaps (I mean at least I wasn't able to make the MC jump no matter what I pushed), and the combat is really clunky and stiff as there is just one attack and it has very limited range. Checkpoints seem way too far apart for a game where you can die this easily from stiff controls. I'm still excited to try some other RS games in the future, but this one wasn't for me.
easy to pick up and start playing, controls are straight foward. Storyline was good, im excited to see where it goes. Enemies have a very strange and unique look to them. Theres a ton of different items to pick up and use for different stat? bonuses like speed, or no fall damage ect. I like how there was a hidden weapon in the game if you went out of your way to actually explore the planet. Soundtrack was decent. Achievements were a bit buggy with unlocking when i closed the game, but they managed to unlock so im not complaining just pointing it out for future players. This game is actually a lot of fun to try and speed run, once you know the layout of the game, its fairly short, maybe 10m on a good run, so to try and speed run it and see your time decrease is a lot of fun, the game just has a nice flow that makes you want to keep on playing it.
