About Staying Fresh

Features:

  • Search for the perfect strategy: in minimalistic turn-based combat, you have the opportunity to study your opponent's attacks and find the best solution
  • Look for scraps of recipe book pages to learn how to create new units
  • Research and collect ingredients to repair, upgrade and create new culinary warriors
  • Endless possibilities: a variety of levels, units and enemies open up endless horizons of possibilities

Interesting tactics game. Despite first glance similarity it plays quite differently to Into the Breach. This one has more focus on level traversal and improvisation. It has unique system where you find ingredients that both serve as upgrades for your character, but you can use some combinations of them to craft additional units instead. The art style is nice, I like that characters play quite differently. Feel a bit punishing, but probably need to play more in order to get better at it. If Into the Breach was too puzzly for you, you may like Staying Fresh more.

This game has some good ideas, but it does suffer from its technical state (it's an early access after all). You might need to play 30-50 minutes to get used to the basics through trial and error since there is no tutorial (not that it needs one, but there are no hints/tooltips either). Since the game is quite cheap right now, it's safe to recommend it even it its current state, but you need to come in a patient mood as there is a learning curve there. Some good parts: * The game has a good artstyle, it mixes Japan-style units (samurai, sumo, etc.) with food :D * It has some less frequently used ideas, like shared resource for new units/upgrades/effects (although it can be compared to buying repairs-vs-equipment in games like FTL) * The music is good * The runs usually feel different (the levels are not that randomized though) This game needs some polish so it can be enjoyed by an average player like me. I don't mind games that don't hold my hand, but some UX changes are necessary to make the experience less frustrating. My top-1 complaint right now is how inconvenient it is to use multiple units. I'll come back to test it again when the game runs a bit smoother.

I don't usually accept review requests in my Anti-Fomo curator page because, well, the topic is so particular so most of the time I don't see the point. However this time around I want to support this little game. It looks good, sounds good, plays well and it's actually fun. I mean, the developer has a clear idea and it works. The graphics and music are neat and well-crafted. Nice work! You can check more reviews here: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/43192698-Anti-FOMO-Patrol/

Very fun and silly. Love the animation and art style and the general gameplay flow is very interesting, albeit in early stage of content quantity. Very interested in the concept and keeping an eye on future content drops. Otherwise a great start for early access!

Really nice game and funny idea! Now I want to see new food-heroes (Xena ;DDD) and zombies, and especially new bosses and more levels. It was such a surprise at the end. Thanks for the game and good luck! I'm looking forward to the updates
