Basically a hybrid of real time Frosthaven. Hex board. You can pause to give commands. Each character gets 2 active abilities and 3 item slots. In the end, very little strategy. Most of the time it's just your characters getting the high ground and then auto attacking. IMO would have been way better as turn-based. Each character really needs more abilities, but I suppose this wouldn't work well in real-time. The items are boring. The skill trees are ok but still doesn't really expand what you can do all that much. Good framework, bad execution.8 found this helpful
If you're just looking for a very simple, casual, strategy-lite game, you may enjoy this, but I still recommend a sale. The strategy is the same every combat. Kite the enemies to a good position (i.e. take high ground) and then just win by letting them fight. Sometimes you need to click a button for an ability. It's really very straightforward with minimal strategic decisions. One thing in particular that bothers me is the extreme simplicity of the items. There's a bunch of armor that have the same defense but provide different special damage type resistances. Then there's a set of rings that also each provide a special damage type resistance. Then there's a set of weapons, one for each weapon type, that do 1-2 damage more than the default weapon for each character. Then there's maybe half a dozen more items that are very basic and uninteresting. There's maybe one interesting item. It's also somewhat telling that there is a game hint displayed on the loading screen but there's only actually one hint that ever gets shown. I strongly suspect that the developer stopped game design early for some reason and just never got the rest of the content they wanted into the game. It's just ex…2 found this helpful

Played Wartile already and this game adds a lot of features as well as variety. Many different enemies, ambience and battle situations. The graphics are beautiful and matches the games theme nicely. I like it.2 found this helpful
I've played this game for 9 hours and it feels like a pale imitation of Wildermyth or Wartales. Buy those instead. Negatives: There's little character progression and it resets at the end of frustratingly short episodes The pool of random encounters is tiny The map selection is tiny The character ability upgrades are mere upgrades and do not unlock new strategic possibilities Difficulty isn't well-judged There were some bugs with enemies spawning barriers The translations (I assume) are poor. Or else they can't spell, most notably 'pierce' is always 'piece' I just don't see the need for real-time-with-pause in place of turn-based mechanics. Positives: It's a good start of a game, and if they're planning further work or DLC then add that in and it might have more depth. This feels like a playtest half-way through development, and if it were, I'd call it promising. But not enough that I'd want to buy it now and see it through development.
