Summer Nightmare (2017)

I didn't expect this game to hook me this much. It's a short horror visual novel, but it does a really good job of creating a creepy and unsettling atmosphere. The visual style is a huge plus - it looks unique and gets genuinely disturbing once things start going off the rails. There's also a fair amount of gore, so fans of bloody scenes and horror stuff won't be disappointed. Some moments genuinely made me sit there and think, "What the hell is going on?". The story pulled me in pretty quickly, and I wanted to see how everything would end. The game isn't very long, but it has multiple endings, so it's worth replaying to see different outcomes. Overall, if you're looking for a short horror experience with a dark atmosphere, weird story, and some blood and gore, this one is definitely worth checking out. I enjoyed it <3

Summer Nightmare is an interesting free horror visual novel that feels like a mix between an anime mystery story and a survival game. The idea is simple but has some potential. You play as Riel, a boy who finds himself trapped in a nightmare version of a school where strange and violent events start happening. The main mystery is figuring out what is real, what is part of the dream, and how to escape. The strongest part of Summer Nightmare is the atmosphere. The game does a decent job creating a feeling that something is wrong, especially with the dream setting and the constant threat around the characters. The idea that deaths in the nightmare could affect reality gives the story a reason to keep going and makes you want to find out what is actually happening. For a free visual novel, there is also a surprising amount of content. The game includes multiple endings, lots of character artwork, background images, and a fairly long script compared to many small free projects. I hate giving thumbs down, and I wish there was a "mixed up feelings" button, because this is how I feel about this one. It's a nice, quick, and visually appealing VN. However the story/writing is lacking. If choices mattered more and the whole thing was polished, it could be way better

This game felt weirdly rushed and written but a very young teenager or young adult. The story was all over the place and at times I didnt even register why we were making the choices that we were as the characters. It was a mess. I didnt even try this game for the gameplay but the easy 100% but I was disappointed either way. only buy the game if you want the 100%
