Everlasting Summer

So, I just got every achievement in the game after almost 33 hours. Was this game worth my 33 hours? Absolutely. I can't stand reading, and I don't know why I even started this game in the first place, but I'm glad I did. First time I've enjoyed reading in a very long time. Now there were a few parts that I didn't like about the story, some parts even bugged me, but the vast majority I liked so I'm still going to give Everlasting Summer 10/10.

[h1] Everlasting Summer[/h1] Everlasting Summer is one of those games that I went into expecting a simple visual novel and ended up getting something much more memorable. At first, it seems like a fairly straightforward story about a guy named Semyon who suddenly finds himself in a mysterious Soviet-era pioneer camp. But the more time you spend there, the more you realize that there is much more going on beneath the surface. The atmosphere is easily one of the strongest parts of the game. The summer camp feels warm, nostalgic, and strangely peaceful, with its forests, lake, old buildings, sunsets, and endless summer days. At the same time, there is always this subtle feeling that something isn't quite right. The game does an excellent job of combining a relaxing summer atmosphere with mystery and occasionally much darker moments. The music deserves a huge amount of praise as well. The soundtrack fits the different situations incredibly well, from cheerful and nostalgic tracks during ordinary camp activities to much more emotional or unsettling music during important scenes. Can you feel homesick for a place you've never been to? Can you feel nostalgic for days that never were? Because that's how I feel after playing this strange wonderful little game that I overlooked somehow for far too long. Having finished it now with all endings and achievements, I put it up there among the handful of VNs that leave such a deep mark you feel changed as a person after reading them. It's up there with DDLC and Katawa Shoujo among games that are engraved on my soul for life. Like KS, this game similarly was developed by a team gathered from denizens of the Russian version of 4chan. Its likely no accident that similar origins produced similarly magical results. The hand-drawn art is stellar; the backgrounds will have you stop and stare at them just for the vibes; and the soundtrack is packed with bangers that will be on permanent loop in your head long after you're done playing. It's one of the few VNs that isn't just good, it grabs hold right away and doesn't let go until you're done.
