So, inspired by an arcade classic, Super Destronaut DX is retro space shooter that pits you against an enemy more dreaded than a UFO, a scoreboard. With multiple modes and high-scores that can be attained by yourself and players all over the globe, this is a game that will put you on the path of achieving a score as high as you can possibly muster.

Simple yet addictive. Played it a bunch on the Vita, and it's still a fun little distraction on the Steam Deck. It was fun to goof around with friends over and see who could get a better high score/last the longest as we passed the controller around. A take on Space Invaders for sure, with a few changes. No shields to hide behind. Different alien ships shoot different types of bullets. There are aliens at ground level that can take you out, and some turn into indestructible "grays" that fall from the sky when you shoot them. The aliens you shoot come in waves that are chosen at random, and one of the aliens, upon destruction, awards you with one of four various power-ups for a limited time. But the game didn't pull me in. Despite the changes, I didn't really invest much more time than it took to complete the challenges. And some of the challenges were frustrating to complete because of the way the game plays. The randomness of the waves made the challenges more difficult. For example, one challenge is to collect 4 power-ups in 60 seconds. But because the waves are chosen at random, it may not give you a wave that has a power-up in it, making it impossible to complete the challenge without losing and starting again. I didn't find the replay value to be much more than whatever it took to finish the challenges.
