Super Destronaut, developed and published by Petite Games, is a compact retro arcade shooter that deliberately embraces the simplicity and immediacy of classic space-invader–style games. Rather than reinventing the genre, it aims to refine and celebrate it, offering players a fast-paced experience built around reflexes, pattern recognition, and the addictive pursuit of ever-higher scores. Petite Games leans fully into nostalgia here: the game feels like it could have lived beside the earliest wave of home console shooters, but it benefits from modern responsiveness and crisp presentation, creating a hybrid of old-school design and contemporary usability. The core gameplay is wonderfully direct. You control a lone ship sliding horizontally across the bottom of the screen, firing upward at incoming waves of brightly colored alien enemies. The enemy formations advance, shift, and fire back in increasingly dense patterns, and avoiding their projectiles becomes just as important as destroying them. Power-ups drop frequently, providing temporary boosts that increase fire rate, add spread shots, or grant other offensive advantages. The moment-to-moment flow is built on a satisfying rhyth…

In every way the best modern remake of Space Invaders I've ever played. The graphics are really nice, it's super fun to play, but most of all, the background song, "Chiptune Does Dubstep" is incredible. I love that this is cross-platform so I can take a quick break to play a game or two wherever I am, without having to boot up a disgusting Windows PC or dink around with WINE just to play a quick arcade game. This game should be far more popular, in my opinion.

Super Destronaut is a fun Space Invaders like with neon visuals, good music and fun power ups. What you see is what you get. One more thing that I'd like to mention; if this game is running too fast, try lowering the refresh rate of your display.
