Super Sami Roll

This game is a weird one. I like how simple of a platformer it is, but I wasn't really prepared for how frustrating this game could be sometimes. The moveset is alright, Jump, Roll, Wall Jump, Tongue Grapple, Stomp and it feels mostly fine? I just don't think the level design really complements the moveset so well. Sami moves like he was designed for a momentum based platformer but the level design most of the time is very precision based. There are so many thin ledges, which normally wouldn't be a problem if Sami could stop on a dime, but he always conserves his momentum making it so difficult to stay on. Often times it isn't the major obstacles that will kill you, but it's the minor things; Sami doing a mini bounce after rolling off a ledge eating your jump, stomping on the slightest incline, grappling too close to a spike or enemy or simply just trying to re-adjust yourself. Levels are really just trial and error until you get it right. There are times when I feel the level design manages to have a good balance of challenge and fun, but I can only really say that for a handful of levels. About 7 years ago I played Yooka-Laylee and throughout the entire 17 hours I spent on it there was not a moment's rest where I was not cursing the devs' existences. I was so adamant that no other devs could possibly concoct a torture device that would ever even remotely come close to the rotten designs of it. enter Super ♥♥♥♥ Roll This game makes Y-L look like a masterpiece. I have absolutely no idea how the dev even thought this crap up. The level design and move sets are so awful I am at a loss for words on how to describe them. Everything about it just feels wrong. I would accuse it of not being playtested but I know for a fact it was because you got some levels designed for toddlers and then the very next requires pinpoint precision movement and timing that could not possibly be a coincidence like they're trying to replicate Super Meat Boy. You know how most beloved 3D platformers encourage experimenting with alternative routes? Not this one. You're given 1 or 2 cookiecutter paths to clear a level unless you spend ungodly hours learning speedrun exploits. I think I saw this game in a video for recommended indie games, so I wish listed it and bought if during the summer sales. I don't know how this game can have so many positive reviews because Sami is hard to control. It honestly feels like this game wasn't properly playtested. When you get hit by enemies, you get launched in the opposite direction and there's no temporary invincibility to give you a chance to recover. You can get caught in a string of hitstuns from enemies which makes this very frustrating. Sami feels SOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOW and he's so unresponsive to tight movements. There's also issues with the UI, but those are mainly quality of life issues and I could overlook them if the gameplay wasn't so frustrating. They also play a cinematic every time you retry the level, and while it's nice that you can speed through it, it gets annoying fast, especially when you're fighting on the boss levels. Oh yeah! Another thing! You can't properly attack enemies! You have no ability to fight off enemies and all you can do is dodge them, which can get frustrating the more enemies show up. The game supports both Xbox 360 controller and Playstation 4 controller. I was successfully able to play on a linux computer without any framerate issues.
