Suzy Cube

It's a very nice change of pace to have a game be as accessible as Suzy Cube, especially in a genre that so often leans towards brutal difficulty and unreasonably demanding precision. A combination of appealing visuals and sound design, a generous checkpoint and lives system, simple mechanics and solid controls thanks to some smart camera angles makes Suze Cube easy to pick up and play, and I never got bored or frustrated even on the few levels that required multiple attempts. Levels mostly rotate through half a dozen or so different themes, but the aforementioned camera is used to great effect by switching between different perspectives to mix things up. Some levels are viewed from above or the side rather than from a typical third person angle, and one special stage even aligns certain obstacles with the camera to create optical illusions. I'd highly recommend Suzy Cube to any fans platformers, and I definitely got my moneys worth.

An incredibly fun and cute Super Mario 3D Land-esque game. There are a couple of small issues I noticed, such as the ground pound powerup seeming finnicky and the game restricting my movement in certain areas without proper indication as to why, but those issues don't do enough damage to dampen the experience. It's a 7 or an 8 out of 10, a very competently designed and short experience that achieves everything it sets out to do.

Pretty solid, small-scale Super Mario 3D World clone. Camera is a bit buggy on one or two levels, but otherwise the controls are smooth and the levels are well-designed. It's the sort of game you can tell was made with love. Suzy shows a lot of personality for just being an animated stack of blocks. The soundtrack is rather limited, but the tracks available are pretty catchy. The bright NES chiptunes fit the intentionally blocky characters and environments.

This owes every idea it has to Mario 3D World. There is not an original thought in this game. Every enemy and obstacle design is in 3D world. The cutscenes look like a bad mobile game. The game is easy enough to sleep through. Everything is painfully dull. The same boss is repeated five times. Level themes are shallow, and levels are forgettable. At least it reminded me how much better the Mario game was, wish I played that instead.

It's a mediocre Mario 3D Land clone but without many of the things that make it good. 5/10

A well made corridor platformer, it's hidden stars can be tricky to find but not frustratingly so. It should take an afternoon to finish and is a very enjoyable time. The only small annoyance was a bugged achievement for collecting all of the stars, but other than that Suzy Cube is a good game worth playing.
