Survivor's Notes

Recommended. Absolutely recommended. I have no idea what I just experienced. I finished Survivor's Notes, immediately went back to see some of the paths I missed, reached Chapter 6 again, met Radish and the Peacock Squad, and realized that any remaining attempt I had made to understand this game's relationship with reality was pointless. This is one of the most gloriously convoluted, completely insane stories I have ever watched while occasionally being asked to click on something. Calling it a "zombie survival game" feels technically correct in the same way that calling a tornado "a weather event" is technically correct. You start with zombies. Fine. Then you get conspiracies. Secret experiments. Military operations. Time travel. Future timelines. Prophetic visions. People dying. People coming back. People getting bitten who probably should have stopped getting bitten several bites ago. Monks. Special forces. Scientists. Hackers. Human-zombie weirdness. Entire groups of characters appearing out of nowhere with enough personality to star in their own game. And just when you think the writers have finally emptied the bucket of crazy onto the floor... RADISH AND THE PEACOCK …

I had been enjoying the game until I hit a bug in Chapter 5 which stops me from being able to progress any further. You need a certain favourability with Bai Yuan so she saves you, but even when replaying previous chapters choosing every positive option for her this does not update. Originally you required 6 favourability, last update appears to have dropped this down to 4, but even picking all positive options with her I am stuck at 3. So can't progress with the story and am honestly losing interest in picking it back up if a fix doesn't come soon. I could look past the AI slop for an entertaining story but when I get stuck at a bad ending half way through the game it feels like a waste of my time.

Survivor's Notes presents its zombie apocalypse through the lens of an interactive cinematic drama, placing narrative decisions ahead of traditional survival mechanics. if your a fan of interactive movie style games and a fan of zombies its definitely worth the seven dollars.
