The Dawn of Art

"The Dawn of Art" is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. This is yet another garbage virtual art gallery polluting Steam... and not to put too fine a point on it, we're here for PC games. This is not a game. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers…

Nice little vr film about ancient civilizations and their cave paintings.

Well produced. Cool effects. But very short and lacking any kind of in game turning feature. Can't beat the price point though.

This is a nifty little experience with about 15 minutes worth of playtime. It worked reasonably well with my Quest 2 via Steam Link. There's two modes - a "movie" and a virtual tour. The movie is a scripted experience with a couple of interactive elements. I was hoping for more historical information/context, but the narrative is cool I suppose. The movie can be enjoyed while sitting, although you have to reach up at least once and that would be easier if you stand. At the end of the movie, I couldn't help but wave at the approaching group of people. For a moment, I was totally immersed. The tour is a brief "walk" around a digital replica of the cave, teleporting to designated spots to listen to a narrator talk a little bit about the art. You can sit for this too, but be prepared to keep turning around to teleport to the next spot. For a free and short VR experience, this is pretty good. You're not gonna walk away with a degree in prehistoric art, but yannow that would be a bit much to ask of something like this. I would show this to someone curious about VR who likes educational experiences in the real world.
