I was really excited to play this game, because from what I saw, this developer makes really great scary games. However, it was unplayable on my pc. I later discovered (after I had it refunded), that it was an issue that was caused by the latest windows update -altering my bios system, capping steam's ability to take advantage of my full pc specs, limiting me to 8fps. So, i can't really speak to it, because my last comment was based off of me incorrectly assigning the lag to the games optimization-since games were playing fine up until that one. However, I was really excited to give it a go, and i retract my negative comment. I can't change my review to a 'i don't know rating' so i changed it to a recommend-please take that in consideration.1 found this helpful
THE HOLIDAY STORY
It is the tenth horror walking simulator game by JustTomcuk developer and the 4th game set in a Christmas theme. And again, like previous JTC games, it is a short game with a decent creepy atmosphere. Just like every walking sims out there, the game is linear and the story gets quite dark. The scary moments are mostly the jump scares that you get at times but the atmosphere is creepy in itself. The visuals are much improved from the vhs filter that get's annoying honestly. Audio is good. Walking speed is still slow AF most of the time but you can "walk faster" this time. Level design get's the job done while nothing exceptional. The motion blur was slacked a lot in here so there's that! The game supports perfectly UltraWide Screen monitor. There is finally menu in this game with the good basis of settings like FOV option!
RECOMMENDATION:
I actually liked it, even that chase sequence was fun! I recommend this one! If you're in the mood for more Christmas theme horror game, you should give a shot to Silent Nights, Christmas Nightmare and The Dark Gift by the same developer.1 found this helpful
What a weirdo... If I ran into a guy like that in real life, I’d sue the hell out of him. Aside from that, it was fine.
i really love your games and played them all but the warehouse section with the chase is the ultimate crap. Tried it several times, i understood how it works, but it doesn't work really well. I completely lost interest at that point.
You know, there really should be a warning somewhere about THE DOLLLLLLS OH GAWD THE DOLLS
The Holiday Story by JustTomcuk is a compact psychological horror experience that takes a familiar seasonal setting and slowly reshapes it into something unsettling and uneasy. Presented as a first-person exploration game, it begins with a simple and relatable premise: a parent stopping by a festive store to pick up a last-minute gift during the holiday season. What initially feels warm and ordinary quickly begins to shift, as subtle changes in the environment introduce a sense of discomfort that grows stronger with each passing moment. The game does not rush its transformation, instead allowing tension to build gradually through atmosphere and pacing. The gameplay is intentionally minimal, focusing almost entirely on movement and observation. There are no complex systems, puzzles, or combat mechanics to engage with, and the player’s role is primarily to explore the environment and take in its details. This approach places a heavy emphasis on immersion, as the experience relies on how effectively it can draw players into its world. While this simplicity makes the game easy to pick up and understand, it also means that engagement depends largely on the strength of its atmosphere ra…
