I loved this game. I wish more people would try it and give this game the attention it deserves, but I suppose the themes, atmosphere, and narrative appeal to a pretty niche audience. If you like horror-puzzle-story games and/or greek mythology - and don't mind a game that's not perfectly polished - you will almost certainly find a playthrough worthwhile. I recognize the developer's self-criticism about some of the puzzles having "unfair death mechanics," and imperfect logic, which definitely resulted in my frustration from time to time. That frustration was never game-ruining, and instead made me feel more entrenched in the dreamlike, trapped-prey vibe of the story. As I unveiled more nuggets of truth about the main character (the stag), the more compelled I felt to see things through until the end. I think that's a unique achievement, as many puzzle games become boring when you put enough pieces together. PS, I vastly prefer the original trailer to the new one... (as of writing this review, the original trailer is to the far right of the game's image stills)

RPG Maker strikes again! The Hunt - Rebuilt is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a godawful high school goth club dropout "horror" puzzle adventure, designed badly, implemented worse, with a bunch of "blink and you miss it" things... you know, when you design something you want people to see but make it hard to see. The truest of amateur game developer acme right there, although it's hard to describe using the RPG Maker childrens toy construction kit as "game development", it was designed for children to make little toys to pass around with friends. It is not an "Ez-mode" button to turn amateurs into competitors to Bioware, Larian and Bethesda. This is a 2D, single-p…
