About The Kangaroo Conspiracy

🦘Mainstream in Germany. Completely WTF everywhere else.🦘

(...and fully playable in English)

The Kangaroo Conspiracy is an absurdist retro platformer based on one of Germany’s most popular comedy franchises — a mainstream cult phenomenon about conspiracy logic, anti-authority satire, false wisdom, and a talking kangaroo with red boxing gloves, strong opinions, and a talent for being confidently wrong.

What is this game, exactly?
It’s a retro-inspired pixel-art jump’n’run adventure, following the surreal plot of the film: Marc-Uwe (the human) and the Kangaroo (the marsupial) get sucked into a conspiracy — and also, a computer game. That’s not a metaphor. They literally become pixel characters and must fight their way out while battling conspiracy theorists, questionable logic, and their own meta-commentary.

Features:
  • 21 levels of kangaroo chaos featuring jumping, fighting, puzzling and multiple choice dialog-ing
  • Subgenres include: Jump’n’Run, Jump’n’Box, Puzzle-Adventure-Jumping, and Rhythm-Jumping
  • Funky soundtrack featuring GERMAN RAP, if you can imagine that!
  • 21 decidedly un-cinematic in-game cutscenes with occasional attempts at humor
  • 10 Steam achievements
  • Certified: FUNNY (by Marc-Uwe Kling himself — you can trust him, he’s getting all the residuals)

Achtung!
May contain traces of Wanderlust, Zeitgeist, Fremdschämen, and a very German marsupial from Australia.

✦ AI summary

The Kangaroo Conspiracy is a niche platformer-adventure hybrid that heavily relies on familiarity with the source material and German comedy style, with players divided on whether its irreverent humor and meta-commentary justify the otherwise conventional gameplay. Those unfamiliar with Marc-Uwe Kling's universe or who prefer substance over comedic personality find the game's retro platformer sections and visual novel portions uninspired and cringey, while fans of the source material appreciate its commitment to offbeat humor and refusal to appeal to mainstream sensibilities. The Kangaroo Conspiracy is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This particularly badly made platformer is from Germany, is badly translated from German, and is apparently a "meta" game about some crappy film or something... it's not great for gamers to have weird fringe fan-fictions nobody gets shoved at them on Steam, especially when they lack any real value as serious PC games. The game's story follows Marc-Uwe and the Kangaroo as they are sucked into a conspiracy and also, a computer game, where they must fight their way out while battling conspiracy theorists and their own meta-commentary. This is cringey and badly written, and is accompanied by weak puzzle platforming and a slew of technical defects we'll get into shortly. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers…

The Kangaroo Conspiracy, developed and published by Tunermaxx Media GmbH, is a delightfully strange retro-styled platformer that wears its personality front and center, unapologetically embracing its origins as a tie-in to a very specific comedic universe. Rather than trying to broaden itself into a generic crowd-pleaser, the game commits to its offbeat premise with confidence, presenting a pixelated jump’n’run adventure that constantly breaks the fourth wall and leans into absurdity. From the outset, it’s clear that this is a project driven more by affection for its source material and tone than by a desire to chase modern trends. That decision immediately defines the experience: this is a game that wants you to laugh, nod along to its cynicism, and enjoy the ride as much as the mechanics. At its core, the gameplay is rooted in classic 2D platforming traditions. Movement is simple and responsive, focused on precise jumps, timing, and navigating compact levels that echo the sensibilities of older console and PC platformers. There’s very little mechanical clutter here, and that restraint works in the game’s favor. By keeping the controls and objectives straightforward, the develope…

Everytime i skip a level it switches to the German version, please fix this issue.

A fairly short game which takes about 5 or more hours to 100% - half of the game is a platformer with short levels & the other half a visual novel. This game appears to be niche & based on a movie which was based on a book - if you're not familiar with either of those (which I wasn't until I played this game & looked them up) the jokes could miss. The game is satirical in nature with conspiracy theories & never takes itself seriously. There are several pop culture references added in aswell. It would have been a nice addition if it had a skip button for the dialogue when you replay a level. Overall the experience I had was slightly under average.

https://youtu.be/ua_z2l3mKu8 German humor may not be a wide enough cultural touchstone to make up for the otherwise below average action platformer elements.
