The Last Day of Adolf

I would give this game a positive review, but it seems unfinished to me, like a late beta in need of final content and copyediting passes. I really like the pixel art, and the music loop has a simple "Wolfenstein 3D" sound to it that evokes memories of the early 1990's era. The concept was attractive to me because I'm a student of WW2 history. That said, the game's mere existence skirts the limits of good taste, and it would take a skilled writer indeed to make it a teaching experience while being humorous without being offensive. The early LucasArts point and click adventures, on which this is modeled, had the character comment on every verb + target interaction, many of them humorous. You could attempt every verb on every interactive object, and the character would always have something to say, sometimes a joke, sometimes a hint about the correct action, and sometimes a generic "I can't do that.". That's not so with this game; you have to find the exact correct verb + object combination to get any feedback from your character; if you choose a combination that has not yet been given a reply (and there are many such combinations), the interface will simply flash briefly as if you…

The Last Day of Adolf is a 2D retro pixel point and click adventure game similar to the old generation 1 Scumm engine games from LucasArts (unsurprising considering it was "made" by filling out templates in Adventure Game Studio, which is a construction kit dedicated to making only this type of game). I'm uncertain as to whether this is a joke game, or it's just so badly made that it's indistinguishable from a joke game. A question for the philosophers of our time, to be sure. You'll be confronted by badly mangled writing, again unclear if the writing is so bad because it's a joke, badly translated, or just plain bad. This is coupled with fairly lazy attempts at filling out the templates (the "developer" didn't bother filling out all of the templates so many of the actions in the game which you would expect would elicit some response, even if a simple negative one, do nothing at all). There's a Hitler theme as you explore Hitler's last day in his bunker, but this is unfaithfully done and seems to be an attempt at clickbait (hence my feeling this may well be a joke game and not a serious attempt to make a game for gamers). This game doesn't look good. Also trying to go through doorways is annoying.
