The Lizartian

"The Lizartian" is a somewhat low quality amateur made furry/scaley friendly narrative driven 2D top down "lizard taming" game where you do some top down shooting style action sequences between blobs of badly written high school fanfiction visual novel text. The mildly viable premise is trashed by an incredibly weak technical implementation. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs to pretend they're mobile phones or Commodore 64s. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. I like lizards so I wanted to like this game. Unfortunately, it plays like a Newgrounds flash game but possibly even more tedious. For a minute I thought I was having fun because it was reminding me of Runescape's Fishing Trawler, but I died in the tutorial because the ship kept getting set on fire faster than I could put the fires out by some unseen enemy. I kind of want to try again, but I realize that the entire game is pretty much what you see in the trailer/screenshots.
