About The Metronomicon: Slay The Dance Floor
Packing in a fully-fledged story mode with a colorful cast of musically-empowered heroes and villains, The Metronomicon sees you take control of a party of eight new masters of the “rhythmic combat arts” to wage musical warfare against a multitude of dance-mongering fiends. Control up to four concurrent heroes as they cast powerful spells, buff their teammates, and beat down their enemies with a variety of magical loot and groovin’ dance moves. The effectiveness of your team is all in the rhythm, so put on your dancing pants, light up dad’s disco ball, and prepare your body for The Metronomicon. Oh, and did I mention couch co-op? Because nothing's better than an armored dance partner.

Some good music in here, and I found the overall conceit to be really charming! But I have three major issues with this game: First, engaging the elemental systems requires looking at the monsters on the right side of the screen, and that means taking your eyes off of the notes that need to be watched and hit accurately. Second, this is a music-driven game but not a music-reactive game. That is a design choice and not a flaw as such, but for me personally it makes a rhythm game far less fun when nothing I do has any influence on what I am hearing. Third, the DLC is disconnected from your RPG progression, and the core gameplay in those songs isn’t engaging enough to make up for that lack of integration. They would have been much more appealing if they tied into the existing reward loop. Finally, though this isn't a major issue since I found some workarounds, gamepad support in this game is flaky.3 found this helpful
Upsettingly bad art direction, unfunny dialogue, voice acting so bad it horseshoes twice around to being bad again, and music that is.... fine..... Like, if this game didn't come out 10 years ago, I'd be suspicious it was AI generated. Not because it's slop, just because it's.... fine.... All of the above would be forgivable if the mechanics of the game didn't also grate. Button combinations are annoying to execute with the control layout options available. Tracking enemies' elemental types is a distraction. The XP system is gratuitous and makes the game feel like a chore.2 found this helpful
Great game, if you have rhythm, but I have two left legs...1 found this helpful
The Metronomicon: Slay The Dance Floor is one of the more inventive genre hybrids released in recent years, combining rhythm-based gameplay with role-playing mechanics in a way that feels surprisingly natural. Developed by Puuba and published by Akupara Games, the title takes the familiar structure of a fantasy RPG and reimagines it through the lens of a music game. Instead of selecting commands from menus or waiting for turns to unfold, players must perform actions in time with a constantly evolving soundtrack. The result is a fast-paced adventure that demands both strategic thinking and rhythmic precision, creating an experience unlike most traditional RPGs or rhythm games. The game's story embraces a playful and deliberately absurd premise. Strange dance parties have begun appearing across the world, attracting dangerous monsters and spreading chaos wherever they emerge. To stop this unusual threat, a group of heroes trained at a specialized academy must travel across various regions, confront increasingly powerful enemies, and uncover the source of the mysterious musical invasion. The narrative never takes itself too seriously, relying instead on humor, colorful characters, an…
