The Night Librarian

Update: Developer has updated the game so it can be completed but I have since returned it, so…that’s all I can say about that. I’d strongly encourage them to expect more out of players if they make another game. Well that was certainly something. [strike]Upfront: the game can’t be finished. There’s a bug on Day 4 where alphabetizing books just doesn’t work or maybe I just don’t know the alphabet.[/strike] The “game” is sorting some books and picking books out for patrons. Not super creative but I decided I’ll bite, maybe it’ll surprise me. It did, by being worse than I expected. The developer seems terrified of challenging players in any way. A patron asks for a red book of poetry with an author name that rhymes with Mapril? There will literally be a red book, called “a book of poetry” by the author April Poetry with the note “Author’s first name rhymes with Mapril” under it. Lmao dude buck up and start ruining player’s lives no one wants to see notes like that. I see that the developer has made one other game and that game has an AI disclosure. Vibe coding and AI explain the state of this game completely.

I would one hundred percent just play the librarian part as a whole game. Just endlessly working as the night librarian. Honestly, I feel like the story was too short. Only because it's amazing and I want more haha. I need more info. I want to read the lore about the library and the family. I guess it wasn't really too short, I just want more of it. There was just enough crumbs to have a theory about the ending without really knowing for sure and to be surprised when I started to figure it own. 10/10 wonderful experience.

Short game, but it has a really beautiful story. Good spooky aspects to it, and the different activities of each night are fun to complete and also library related which is neat. I volunteered in a library for about 10 years and always wished I could find a magical mysterious library to go have an adventure in, so I really enjoyed this game!

Fun playthrough. Has cool stories and library-themed puzzles to work through throughout five nights. Puzzles include sorting books alphabetically and by genre, finding specific books for patrons, and ordering pieces of text in logical order. You can also get achievements for things like completing a night or all five nights without using hints. Would recommend if you enjoy reading/library-themed games!
