The Town of Light

this game is slow, everything else is decent, but the story is one of the most disturbing one i've ever seen.

[h1]I have never been this terrified by a game without a single jump scare :/[/h1] [i]You can immediately tell when a game is made with love. After beating it, you just sit there for a long time, thinking about the massive amount of work that devs put into it.[/i] [h3][i]The story.[/i][/h3] The game is set back in the 2016, showing the events of 1930s. Specifically, you walk through a ruined asylum, piecing together memories from that era. And the atmosphere is incredibly heavy, especially considering the game is based on true events. [h3][i]Visuals.[/i][/h3] Visually, everything looks absolutely stunning. Plus, the optimization is solid, the FPS stayed stable and high even on ultra settings. +Huge respect to the level designer for the object placement, the subtle light cues, and the detailed maps. It was almost always clear what to do and where to go, except for a couple of moments due to the localization. Good Game

Game doesn't want to work, so I can't really recommend it. It has two start up options, normal, and those for intel 10+ gen. I chose that option, but it says its missing a file. I looked up some fix for it which kind of worked. It at least got it to launch in the normal way. Then I'm treated to a painfully slow walking character. One of the things I hate most in life is slow-walking people, and your character is senile granny at the grocery store walking down the middle of an aisle at 5 steps per minute slow. Yes, this fact adds to the tone and story, but from what I was able to play, this is a game that requires a lot of walking and exploring, and why do that when moving anywhere is a tedious chore that makes me not want to play it at all rather than walk into an adjoining room? I found a doll, then you have to take care of the decrepit old thing, but to do that you need to bring it up an elevator. Every time I enter the elevator the game crashes. I don't know if it's because of the shady fix to get it to launch that's crashing it, or if its just a piece of poo. Honestly, I'm not too upset by it. Originally played in January 20th 2020, was recommended by a friend at that time, enjoyed it then despite the difficult nature of traversal and ease of getting lost. Revisited it today over 6 years later and truly forgot how much of a hidden gem this game is. Going off memory it seems the devs updated the game as at one point in time it was in a completely unplayable state and needed to be fixed with CMD commands if my memory serves as correct, but today it ran very well. i played in 4k max settings on my RTX 5090 and achieved anywhere from 120-150 FPS. The game is graphically, artistically, stylistically beautiful, only ran into two bugs in the whole play-through, both bugs seemed to tie together in the sense that after some cutscenes midway through the game FPS drops to 60-70 FPS for no reason and objects become unable to be interacted with, a simple quit and relaunch back in fixes this. Later cut scenes seemed to fix themselves and the two bugs no longer occurred, so seems to affect a few chapters midway through the game only, Voice acting was beautiful and was a truly immersive and horrifying experience, unfiltered and exposed for all the things mental illness was for 1940's …

while gameplay is certainly not the most innovated, I appreciate story environment. The events we discover that took place in this "Hospital" is genuinely horrific--especially considering the story itself is based off real events. including the "medical practices" placed upon the people that had no choice but to reside there. while I enjoyed learning about our protagonist and her struggles, it's not something I'd recommend others unless they don't mind just wandering around.
