The Medium

For me, this game is one of a kind... While you're playing, you can't wait for it to end, but by the very end, you don't want it to end... The game has a great atmosphere. The voice acting is wonderful. For those who want to play, I highly recommend going through the entire game from start to finish in one sitting. Otherwise, you might miss out on that powerful climax. We’re hoping for a sequel!

Better Silent Hill than F

I was pulled to this game by the trailer where they showcase the dual reality. It's a neat feature yet this game feels like it had one very good idea but not enough of the rest to support it. It felt too long even though it's a rather short game. The game came out in 2021 but it looks a decade older. It could be forgiven since it's not a AAA game but my real problem with it is the gameplay experience. It feels tacked on to a admittedly interesting story, almost like filler, to avoid telling the story too quickly. It's an adventure game so my expectations of gameplay aren't that high but even then it was subpar (It's horror adventure in theory but horror part didn't reach me at all). The whole gameplay loop is to explore different areas, find clues, documents, memories, stories beyond the veil etc. and slowly piece together what's going on. You sometimes use the dual reality feature that sets this game apart (which they also patented and I don't support. See: WB with the nemesis system and Nintendo with pretty much everything they can) that enhances the otherworldly feeling of normal areas. So far so good. But even that feels clanky. I will only recommend this game IF you can get it at a 75% off discount, like I did, and IF you can handle the janky controls (played with a keyboard and mouse). I have two fav horror movies: It Follows, because of the content it deals with, and Talk to Me, because of one of the twists the movie provides 3/4 of the way through. This game STORY wise, delivers some VERY awesome things similar to what those two movies provide, however the ending of this game was a bit frustrating as to me, the player, it was painfully obvious what decision and choice i'd have the MC make, but I dont feel the DEVs allowed the execution of said conclusion to provide the best payoff.... The other reviews who DONT recommend this game did a great job not providing any spoilers, and I hope my review does the same thing too, however imo ALL reviewers that said they dont recommend the game, i agree on nearly all of their concerns and frustrations. I do think it's a bit odd that this game hasnt received an UE touch up/ update or a few tweaks w/ some DLC havent been found, but id probably be more understanding if I knew what led to the development of it. A bit weird one honestly. More or less half of the game is cutscenes. Story was decent, the ending was pretty poorly executed in my opinion. Runs decently. Giving them thumbs up, because the game is obviously inspired by Silent Hill down to the Akira Yamaoka music because they nailed the Silent Hill 2 remake. Good enough experience.
