A really fun arcade combat game. It becomes a satisfying meditation in moving and striking with precision. Too many slipups in a short time can end the run, so you have to be very consistent and never let your hubris get the best of you. The existence of the gambling is a bit of a downer to me since good luck can have a huuuge impact on your run's survival rate, it's hard to resist - but other than that I have no complaints.3 found this helpful
Played this so frickin much as a kid and to this day im still playing it with my closest friends. this game was it what brought me and my friends together. I love this game.1 found this helpful
Underrated Gem!!
It's a single screen arena platformer with randomized rooms and fixed moveset. Although there is a shop and you can buy some power ups (and trying your luck in a blackjack setting to earn or lose money), from beginning to end is an open, raw duel! The player has a basic sword attack, a special build up strong attack, bow and arrow and can block. I didn't find myself blocking at all most of the time. In fact, I ended up clearing the game at hero difficulty without feeling or thinking about blocking. The game rewards risky gameplay, by improving loot (potions, coins, etc) every time you use your special attack. I only used the Valkyrie, which is a balanced character overall. The game is short, but it has depth with nuances, peculiarities and intricacies of the combat.1 found this helpful
Once I realized that you only play each area once and the gold you get is the gold you get, something clicked. It became better for some reason. There is no going back. The play through felt more permanent. Just finished the game as the barbarian and I want to try it as the paladin. I was not expecting to have the urge to go back and play the whole game again. A true GEM! Loved it! Highlights: Decapitating enemies gives more gold (makes you want to play a certain way). 2. Good variety of enemies with different ways to defeat the. The Zombie that you have to decapitate to kill permanently is genius:) 3. One play though, no take backs makes it feel old school in a good way, 4. Smooth and satisfying controls. 5. Best procedural y generated maps I've seen in a game like this. 6. Pixel art looks great and you can pick between 3 different styles of art - nice touch! Give this a try!1 found this helpful
Under rated gem. barbarian's classic head chop animation with tidy single screen platform action for 2 players, good pixel art, feels like a proper arcade game1 found this helpful
I love this game! It's a nod to the 8 bit era with modern sensibilities. A little Bruce Lee C64 style sprites and Barbarian head chopping. I enjoyed my first hour with this game, was frustrated with hour 2 - 4, then once I got good, I loved it! The boss battles are tough but fair once you learn the patterns. I've only played it in 1 player mode but I think this would be awesome in 2 player mode.1 found this helpful
