Tin Star

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 549: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (10/10) Well, g*ddamn. Usually I have an idea of how my review will go as I play a game, but for [i]Tin Star,[/i] I was just enthralled. I had literally no thoughts, head empty, because I was so focused on finishing the game. I’ve read at least 30 Interactive Fiction games, but[i] Tin Star[/i] has shot up to the best of the best. You are strong-armed (long story) into being a newly-appointed U.S. marshal of Lander County, a wild place of land around Nevada. For ten incredible chapters, you act as the law. The unique, thorough mechanics system is happily married to detailed, historically-accurate writing. I haven’t even mentioned the two incredible female ROs, and the “conspiracy whose deadly web stretches from San Francisco to New York City.” I didn’t give the blurb much thought—it’s just trying to build hype—but ... you know how in[i] Ace Attorney[/i] you have random plot threads that all coalesce at the end? Very atmospheric game with a highly reactive plot.

More of a "Meh" reccomendation. It is a decent CYOA, with good length, seemingly a lot of options and a lot of very interesting adventure "hooks". However it is marred by a noticeable amount of syntax and grammar, as well as continuity errors. The game regularly assumes, or at least describes, little actions that you didn't undertake - and that already in your very first playthrough, which is a real shame, because it ruins the otherwise quite well done immersion into the story and setting as a whole. The game seems to present a lot of options and choices, which is much appreciated, however the pacing and the implementation of the "game mechanics" are inconsistent at times. Sometimes you are presented with options to ask about topics and you have an infinite amount of time to ask about all presented options, which makes these sections feel arbitrary and plotting, especially when other times you make a choice and get thrown into something new entirely, without having been signposted, or even having the option of backing out. Which brings me to another point of TRULY DIRE CRITIQUE for me: The interludes at the start of a chapter, where you go around shopping in your little town…

the writing will make you tip your hat in respect and even the occasional typo or missing quote isn't law-breaking (Persuasion greatly increased, Law slightly increased) 0/10 you can't romance that one lady's uncle, don't buy (Wealth increased) just kidding of course, i'd recommend it, you can have a lot of fun, and there's high replayability, so feel free to buy it (Wealth slightly decreased)

Very well written "choose your own adventure" text game with an amazing amount of content.
