Sabres of Infinity

caius d'al cazarosta! dragoons advance!!!!!!!!!! very good game, underrated with exceptional writing! played with a friend and we are very excited to play the sequels!!!

Pros: The world-building is good. It takes place in a Napoleonic era like setting, and you join the army as a cavalry officer to fight in a foreign country. Has a large cast of characters that add to the setting. Has good action and dilemmas that you can carefully consider. It's fun to read the story while advancing up the ranks and collecting medals and being a hero. Has two more sequels that add a lot to the story. Cons: For those who want to play as a female character, there is no such option. Stat management can be rather unforgiving. If chosen poorly, one may suffer from being unable to pass stat checks, not only in Sabres, but in the sequels as well. You may actually want to use a guide if you want to get good results. Sabres has a rather episodic feel to it, where chapters often feel self-contained without too much connection to other chapters. Sabres itself really only develops two characters, excluding your own. Much of the cast is forgettable if you only consider Sabres. You need the sequels for the others to be developed further. [/h1] oh man, what an underrated, incredibly niche gem of a game. i would recommend it to anyone interested in napoleonic history and fantasy, especially if they're a reader. friend and i (their review is somewhere around here...) played this together and it was a blast. amazing writing style and story telling (seriously, i am now very inspired by paul wang's writing style) with a great intro to these games. can't wait to finish guns and lords!! caius d'al cazarosta!!1 dragoons!! charge!!

Text based RPG and first in Infinity trilogy. Play as a young officer in the Royal Dragoons and guide your early career by making friends and allies and increase your soldiering, intellect, and charisma stats while maintain the discipline, loyalty, and morale of your men, while choosing from different possible sergeants to allow for a variety of ways to succeed or fail. A bit short and somewhat limited in your actual battles and the people you interact most with are gone for the middle portion of the game, but good writing, provides some good choices, alternate paths, and sensible handling of decisions if you have the stats to back them up while having some good worldbuilding. Idealism/Cynicism and Mercy/Ruthlessness of your character can also influence certain options and descriptions. Future games are longer and see you becoming involved in larger conflicts and the politics of your nation as your importance rises, with you able to load your previous save to have some stat bonuses and other carry overs. Writing my review for this after GOI: I love the setting of this game the most out of all the Infinity games (so far). Being a foot soldier and grunt is something that's really underexplored and very fun, and the way it is built upon in Lords is great. The decisions, whilst very taxing and difficult at times, are very personal and a great experience that elevates this game above most linear VNs for me.

If you like reading light novel mangas, then you should like this. I was hoping for a higher reading level and more choices in an interactive novel therefore I do not recommend this game.
