Towers of Scale

One of the best new games I've played in a long time. By far the best game about score optimization and routing that I've ever played, and quite possibly my favourite game of 2026. It's just so cleanly and elegantly put together. You can learn the rules in 10 seconds, yet it keeps delivering new insights for days. The core gameplay is just about increasing and decreasing a single number, but it manages to extract an incredible amount of depth out of that gameplay because of thoughtful level design and a less-is-more approach to mechanics. And it somehow never manages to feel grindy, because improvements to your scores come from big, mind-blowing ideas and paradigm shifts rather than micro-optimization. You'll start to think very deeply about this game very quickly. Your thinking compresses to the point where a solution with hundreds of steps can often be boiled down to a plan with two or three key ideas. It's brilliant.

I don't normally review games but this indie gem deserves it. The only other Magic Tower style game I tried was Tactical Nexus, but I hated the ugly design of that game and it felt too complicated from the start. Towers of Scale by contrast pulls off a great minimalist graphic design and introduces new mechanics/complexity at the right pace. Even though I'm not a huge puzzle gamer I got absolutely hooked on this game, If you love trying to figure out the most efficient way to do things along with fun meta-progression mechanics, this game may be perfect for you too. The way you tackle towers at the start of the game completely changes as you gain more meta progression currency and (light meta progression spoilers ahead) [spoiler] unlocks. There is only 1 item unlocked by meta-progression so far, but it alone changes how you interact with every tower. I'm interested to see what the developer does with the future unlocks. I'm really looking forward to future content updates and hope the developer gets more recognition for creating this great …

This is such a great game. I was a little unsure by the monochrome graphics but after playing just a few minutes it is just not an issue. Easy to learn and play, hard to master, for sure!! Can't wait for some new levels to be added.

If you like Magic Tower / Tower of the Sorcerer-like games like Tactical Nexus, or you just like pseudo-puzzle games, I highly recommend this. It's less complex than Tactical Nexus, seeing as it only uses Power/HP and not ATK and DEF, but the depth and the implementation of mechanics more than make up for that; in fact, I'd say it's a lot easier to understand and get into, and is more fun to pick up and play on a whim. It's definitely a game that's easy to start, but difficult to master.

This is officially the best entrypoint for the extremely fun and interesting world of the Magic Tower genre. If you're intimidated by the amount of numbers on the screen, don't worry: the amount of math involved is literally the kinda math you use to buy groceries.
