Toy Tanks is grounded in physics, meaning much of the moment to moment gameplay involves mastering the movement!
  • Players can primarily do damage in one of two ways: Shooting and Dashing. Switching between the two damage types is a tricky challenge, but once mastered is extremely effective!
  • Each gamemode has a set of optional Modifiers that can be enabled or disabled based on the players preferences! Modifiers act as an extra twist you can put on any playthrough!
  • For example: The Brawler Modifier allows dashing to do double damage! In return though, players lose the ability to do damage with their standard shot! There are many of these Modifiers to unlock and play with! Plus they can be mixed and matched to create all sorts of wacky experiences!

Understanding your enemy is key to mastering the game, Take a moment to get familiar with all known types of hostile tanks. Although our information is limited, there have been rumors of even stronger enemies. Stay vigilant captain!

  • The First Campaign (Cardboard Castles) acts as an opportunity to learn the basics without too much threat. Safezones are numerous, Hazards are rare, and enemy tanks are scattered. Keep an eye on Yellow, they have quiet the explosive personality!

  • Painted Piers contains a more destructive array of tools to put up against the player. Enemy tanks begin to coordinate with one another, launching assaults' from both sides, supporting one another to stay alive, and dazing/confusing the player with new technology.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this physics-based tank game for its fun, challenging gameplay that successfully captures classic Wii-era tank game appeal with modern improvements like rush-attacks and real-time dodging mechanics. However, some criticize occasional unfair difficulty spikes caused by stunlock situations and erratic enemy behavior, and note the lack of local multiplayer controller flexibility between players. Overall, it's described as a solid, replayable gem that offers good value for fans of the genre.

This game is surprisingly fun - clearly inspired by a certain Wii game from the past however unlike it's more recent indie rival "Wee Tanks" - I have played both and have to say this game wins the contest for it's new rush-attack and physics-feature (smashing against enemies sends them flying and vice versa). Boss battles are quite challenging and well-designed even on Normal Difficulty, the Physics-Engine includes hazards and interactions in the environment, the final-boss tank feels like an old Zelda battle that requires hopping over hazards. The new mobility is a welcome addition and allows for real-time dodges when projectiles get too close.

This game suffers from "good game concept, bad level design." The levels are either brutally difficult, requiring many attempts to beat, or are beaten in less than 10 seconds (there is no in between). A lot of the levels also suffer from being luck based. In particular, 3-10 is very annoying to play as you can play it perfectly up until the boss is on low health, then a bunch of enemies are randomly spawned. In most of my attempts they spawn directly on me causing me to be shot multiple times and basically die instantly. I have own gotten to the end on normal difficulty a single time on 3-star pace, and I was killed by a stray bullet right after the final enemy died (meaning my completion didn't count). Another time I was hit and just lost health, knocking me down to a 2-star completion. Why is there is a brief window where is can happen? The game suffers from many other issues. I belief A-18 was the level that introduced a tank that you can kill with bullets. Was this made clear? No, of course not. I spent like 5 minutes pounding bullets into the enemy wondering why it wouldn't die. The thought of it being unkillable was beyond me as bullets hitting it increased the star bar li…

Good but a ton of the time you died because of nothing or took one too many hits (ex: I got stunned so I got dealt one damage then a ton of missiles got thrown at me, ex 2: a homing missile was going for me then just turned 80 degrees to run into a wall and I shoot myself) Also it suck that when playing on the same pc, you can't have one player use controller and the other use a keyboard.
