Another reviewer had similar points as I am about to make, but I feel like echoing them will help others looking into this game understand that they are problems and not just a one person skill issue situation. The tutorial jobs are extremely narrow and the game doesn't just hold your hand, it death grips it. Metaphorically: You are given a paint by numbers and given your paint colors and told to do it. Here are 3 paint by numbers that are the mechanics of the game. That is the tutorial. Once the tutorial is over, the game gives you access to a art store and tells you to go for it, also here are the jobs you need to do: One of them is paper mache, and this one is making jewelry, and this one is making pottery. The actual gameplay of making dioramas, either for yourself or for an exhibition, is incredibly frustrating and unintuitive. Honestly, it's simply overwhelming once you are given the wheel. You want to do XYZ but you don't know how to do any of the letters that come before, and figuring it out is... just not fun. Which is what I am playing a game for; To have fun. I noticed at the time of writing this I only have 1.1 hours which is wild to me. When I was playing, it felt …

I thought this game would be a bit like Rolling Line but it is not and Rolling Line is far far better than this. A bit disappointed but not surprised that I didnt like this I prefer Rolling Line.

Train Yard Builder scratches a very specific itch — the fantasy of having a cozy model train hobby without the space requirements or cost — and for the most part it delivers that vibe well. The career mode gives you a nice structure with painting jobs, diorama tasks, and exhibition builds, though the repetitive busywork gets old fast and the tutorial swings between hand-holding too tightly and then suddenly dropping you in the deep end. I ran into the frustrating track-not-recognized-as-loop bug that seems to plague a lot of players, and the lack of verticality when placing objects really limits how creative your layouts can feel. If you go in knowing it's a casual, grid-based builder rather than a serious model railroading sim, you'll probably have a decent time — just temper your expectations and know that the sandbox mode is where the real fun lives once you unlock it. At this price point it's worth it for the cozy atmosphere alone, but the bugs and limited depth keep it from being something I'd pour dozens of hours into.

A cute idea that had the potential for a truly great game, however it falls short in quite a few places. The actual building is quite frustrating, but watching the trains go choo choo makes it worth it.
