TRANSCEND

TRANSCEND is an abandoned and incomplete Early Access 2D retro pixel "adventure" game that lamely rips off Avatar and Studio Ghibli themes (because being original is hard). The game was dumped onto Steam as a paid cash grab and abandoned 3 days after launch. Unethically, the developer sold keys for this game to Groupees and Indiegala where they knew it would be resold as a complete product, in an attempt to scam gamers into paying for an incomplete and abandoned product. Aside from the obvious abandoned incomplete nature of the game, it's also broken and doesn't launch properly. Pretending that it did launch properly, wasn't abandoned, and was complete, you wouldn't want to play it anyway. Derivative, lame theme ripping off the work of others aside, the game was made with the craptastic Byond engine, and as always using a poor quality game engine results in a poor quality game. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. Rather mediocre. Unfortunately, the very short prologue does not make me interested enough to find out more. Pros: - Nice graphics - Mildly interesting world Cons: - Terribly clumsy controls! Why require pressing a key THEN a mouse click to do a skill attack? Trying to do that while still moving around with WASD makes for really jerky controls. - For some reason, the player often drops out of combat mode half-way through a fight (and end up getting hit without being able to hit back for a few seconds). Why does that keep happening? - No way to skip or fast forward though all that heavy dialogue and exposition. Why not let your players decide if they want to spend their time reading or playing?

Lovely art wasted. I gave up after 10 minutes of sitting through a wall of slow text crawls, fades to black and the camera scrolling up and down only for the first combat tutorial to just shrug and not bother to explain how the controls work. It didn`t seem to matter anyway. Since other reviews say it`s only 30 minutes long that likely describes 1/3 of the game as it currently is, unfortunately just another abandoned game on Steam, it doesn`t really matter if it`s free or not it`s just not worth the time.
