About Adventure of Samsara

Adventure of Samsara is a mysterious, 2D Metroidvania action-adventure that captures the spirit of the original Atari 2600 title, Adventure, and takes it in an entirely new and unique direction. With stunning, 2D pixel art, Adventure of Samsara combines classic gameplay, a deeply connected world, and a heady, twisting narrative of death, rebirth and memory. Developed by the Brazilian studio Ilex Games, players take control of the Solar Champion, a long-dead Plutonian resurrected by the primordial light of the Sun. Tasked with reactivating a mysterious interdimensional fortress, the Champion must restore balance to the multiverse. As players battle through a series of diverse, interconnected biomes and confront brutal mutant bosses, they will unlock new abilities and enhancements – each revealing deeper layers of the game’s enigmatic, cosmic narrative. The game lives in the spiritual landscape of the original Adventure, brimming with its core elements of exploration, curiosity, and hidden secrets. Not a remake or sequel, Adventure of Samsara instead asks players to search for subtle references to the very first adventure game as they journey through a remarkably deep world.Features- Metroidvania Exploration: Explore 10 unique biomes, from frozen wastes to industrial labs, each filled with distinct enemies, hazards and hidden upgrades.- Classic Gameplay Feel: With classic gameplay and twisted 2D pixel art, Adventure of Samsara evokes a timeless feel while offering something entirely new.- Original Worldbuilding: Immerse yourself in an expansive, interdimensional fantasy world with a deep, spiritual lore.- Easter Eggs: Discover nods to the original Adventure, with familiar structures, enemies, and references that reward both new and returning players.- Collectible Items: Find hidden items, cached away in hard-to-reach corners, to improve your stats and load augments to enhance your abilities and skills.

Mystery, method, and classic innovation. Many may find it slow, but it's fun.

I think the Devs were trying to give movement a "deliberate" feel, and it does have that but also feels clunky. This may turn some people away, but if you are able to get past the clunk there is a serviceable MV here. Nice atmosphere, but the story seems like something thrown together as an afterthought.

Adventure of Samsara takes inspiration from one of Atari’s earliest classics and transforms it into a modern exploration-focused Metroidvania filled with mystery, atmospheric storytelling, and interconnected world design. Instead of simply recreating the original Adventure with updated graphics, the developers reinterpret the core ideas of discovery and exploration into something much larger and more ambitious. The result is a haunting science-fiction fantasy adventure that feels deeply nostalgic while still offering enough originality to stand on its own among modern indie action-platformers. The game follows the Solar Champion, a resurrected warrior brought back to life within a dying and fragmented world consumed by cosmic corruption. From the opening moments, Adventure of Samsara establishes a mysterious tone built around forgotten civilizations, ancient technology, and strange supernatural forces. The story is intentionally vague for much of the experience, allowing players to slowly uncover the truth through environmental clues, hidden lore, and exploration rather than lengthy exposition. This approach creates a constant sense of curiosity because every new region feels conn…

This is a tough one for me to review. So much potential here that it hurts to think of what this game could've been with a little more polish. As-is, I can still recommend this flawed beauty of a game, but with several caveats. First the things that worked: Absolutely stunning pixel art and enemy sprite design. This makes the world a real wonder to explore. Coupled with an awesome synthy soundtrack (crank the music volume to 100 btw, it's set to like 60 by default for some reason), and you've got your atmosphere established in spades. Something about the small character sprite I find very charming as well, although that may be a personal preference thing. I've seen some negative comments regarding the controls being stiff. While that's true, I never found it to be an issue and it seems like a clear design choice that I thought worked well to differentiate this a bit from the more fluid movement that's more the norm these days. What didn't work: My main issue with the game is around the combat. Once you get the ranged weapon, there's little incentive to use the melee options when you can just snipe things from a safe distance. So it essentially trivializes the combat. Similarly,…

A solid metroidvania with cool atmosphere and design. A bit on the easier side walkthroughwise which is a nice change from the tougher games in the genre.
