About Trigon: Space Story

✦ AI summary

Command your own spaceship through a gripping roguelike campaign where you make tough moral choices, manage your crew's strengths, and engage in tactical combat with over 100 weapons across a procedurally generated galaxy. With permadeath consequences, four alien races to encounter, and multiple ship types to master, every run offers a fresh strategic challenge that rewards experimentation and clever crew deployment.

Trigon: Space Story is a roguelike single-player game that focuses heavily on strategy. Dive into a gripping story campaign that sees you commanding your own spaceship and deciding what sort of captain you want to be: a ruthless barbarian, an adventurous fortune hunter, or the hero the galaxy so desperately needs.

In Trigon: Space Story, you’ll have a devastating arsenal of up to 100 different weapons at your disposal—including lasers, turrets, plasma cannons, space bombs and combat drones. You can pause the game at any time so you don’t lose sight of things in the heat of battle.

But it’s on you to make the right tactical decisions and capitalize on your crew’s skills—because death is permanent! Only by experimenting with various strategies will you be able to master the challenging combat situations you must face as captain.

Choose from a large selection of spaceships: Will you start your journey in a classic human spaceship, an energy-efficient Etari model, a bio-mechanical Rakkhi vessel or a high-tech Taertikon craft? As captain, you’re responsible for upgrading the weapons systems and board technology. You can use any resources you obtain to boost your ship’s weaponry.

The crew remains the heart of your ship; skilfully deployed, they will give you the edge you need to win battles. Assign your crew important tasks and always keep their strengths and weaknesses in mind, so that everything runs like clockwork in your next encounter. Don’t hesitate over moral decisions—space doesn’t forgive mistakes!

You’ll have the freedom to roam the galaxy on your conquest campaign: visit space stations, explore abandoned colonies and capture resources. Along the way, you’ll encounter four different races, each with their own characteristics, technologies and philosophies.

Gain experience through quests, sudden events and tactical space battles and bring your newly acquired skills to bear against your enemies.

The procedurally generated universe and dynamic events guarantee you a refreshingly different adventure every time. This, along with a sophisticated endless game mode, makes Trigon: Space Story highly replayable.

  • Action-packed tactical space battles
  • Thrilling single-player story campaign
  • High replayability with procedurally generated universe
  • Endless decision-making possibilities

The difficulty curve on this game is horrifically designed. You'll go from absolutely throttling every ship you encounter to suddenly getting hosed by a single opponent who has 50%+ evade, full weapons, and overpowered crew member abilities. Though this is nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little tuning. There's a reason that in FTL bonuses are very subdued. This game doesn't get that. Imagine if in FTL your opponent would suddenly go from four shields, to eight shields. And you might say 'well just take a launcher'. Problem here is the opponent also has 50% evade. But if you manage to get through all that, well the enemy crew has overpowered abilities reducing the damage they take, boosting their repair and performance to ridiculous amounts, etc. And you only have limited rockets. To give you just a real BROAD stroke to hopefully make this real clear, FTL missiles are pretty valuable. Getting 2 or 3 can make or break a run. Other times you'll be sitting on like 40 unable to use them or just not caring to. Well in this game the delta is significantly different. You might visit a shop and find 3-4 missiles OR you will find like 20-30 normal rockets, then like 12ish emp rocket…

I love FTL. I love all kinds of space style games like this. This is basically an Unfair FTL. Starting out, the learning curve is a bit high. I learned how EMP can really heck your ship up, especially if it's a boss that has two of them. (Literally permanently stunned my shields and weapons, and I had to wait 10 minutes to just die because you cannot fix EMP...) I beat a run out of sheer luck, and unlocked chapter 2. I reached the final boss of chapter 2 no problem, enemies weren't a problem ever in that run, except when a pulsar kind of hecked me up... But then the boss happened. I died in 3 seconds, because most of its weapons bypassed shields, and I only got one barrage off. I took more hull damage than max hull I had in only two barrages from the enemy. They put a shield bypassing boss at the end of the shield-based ship's chapter. I think the developers might of been sadistic or something, thinking "It's a roguelike, if they just slam their heads against it and RNG lines up, they'll have fun, right?" FTL lets you plan things, and set up builds. This game's balancing is very whack. And I don't even KNOW how to unlock new ships, just new factions when I finish chapters; that …

It's a poor knockoff of FTL: Faster Than Light that's trying too hard to look prettier at the cost of readability and playability. The UI is cramped and unreadable, making this game, which is about reading and reacting to the UI, unplayable. if you have poor eyesight, dyslexia, colorblindness, or any combination of those or other visual difficulties, this game will be nearly unplayable. Not worth $5, let alone $20. If this looks interesting to you, please go play FTL. It's just better.

If you like FTL, you'll like this, however this seems like it's got a much harder difficulty curve. I have trouble making it out of the first sector.

Played about an hour. It very much is an FTL clone, but I don't see many of those about so I'm happy. It very hard, even on easy, I really feel easy should be easy. Pretty sure I am still learning though. It looks okay, but to a large degree the looks don't mean much sadly. ADDENDUM: Changed my review to negative, it is just too darn hard. Even on the easy setting. Also very repetitive, I feel like there are a dozen possible events outside of the main quest line. How many times can I deliver chips to a casino? Hundreds apparently.
