True Love ~Jun'ai Monogatari~ was released by Japanese developer Software House Parsley for the NEC PC-98 in 1995. Four years later, the game was localized for Windows 95 and released in the U.S. and Europe by Otaku Publishing. Despite its popularity, the game has been in licensing limbo and only available to play through unofficial sources... UNTIL NOW!
The majority of work put into the re-release of True Love '95 involved uncovering the existing license holders so that fans can support this classic for its 25th anniversary. The game was then ported to the Ren'Py engine to enable it to run smoothly on modern systems with some fabulous quality of life upgrades, such as the ability to resize the window while keeping the retro pixel art looking as good as ever!
The main character is a single, nineteen-year-old Japanese college senior living in the city of Meiai, forced out by his parents at the idea that independence may attract him a partner. With no direction and unsure of his future, the player embarks on a quest to define themselves and find a person to love. The game is played through a series of days consecutively spanning three months.
At the start of each morning, players designate an activity to pursue for evening, night, and in the case of weekends or vacation, daytime. Each choice impacts the overall profile of the player and points are distributed across stats for passion, appearance, fatigue, scholarship, strength, and art. Depending on the level of these stats, and the order of schedules made during particular days, the player will shift their romantic focus and possibly trigger events and encounters with other characters.

Let me preface this by saying I bought this game thinking it was just a dating sim, not realizing it was also an eroge. That's probably on me for not reading descriptions better, but imagine my surprise when one of the characters starts sucking my d!ck. Anyway, this did not deter me, and I pressed on through the game to completion. I wish that that last sentence could be a double entendre, but unfortunately this game does a really bad job of being sexy, and a really great job at making you feel uncomfortable. The game is riddled with sexual predation (including kidnapping and tying people up without their consent) from multiple characters (including the MC, who might be the worst offender in terms of pure number of offenses) that the game hand waves as not being problematic. Not to mention that the MC goes to "college" but all of the characters talk about being in high school, which is surely a lazy attempt to make this seem more appropriate in its re-release on Steam. The dialogue is generally not very good and mostly left me cringing that another human being would legitimately write this. classic
This is a great dating sim game. Its a classic, they don't make dating sim games like this anymore. I watched Tim Rogers' review on Tokimeki Memorial and was craving to to play it but was sad to find out that there is no official English translation for that game. I then found out about True Love '95 and Doukyuusei: Bangin' Summer. Played both of these games, loved them both. Now if only they could make an official English translation of Tokieki Memorial: forever with you Emotional, Kakyuusei 2 and Amagami that would be super cool.
Whatever you do, don't play this at uni ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Also yes big boobies
