✦ AI summary
True Love: Confide to the Maple is a visual novel with a compelling, non-generic story featuring well-drawn artwork, emotional moments, and meaningful player choices that affect the narrative and endings. Common complaints include poor English translation quality, occasional odd narrative decisions, a somewhat dense protagonist, limited soundtrack variety, and some oddly exaggerated background NPCs that feel out of place.

True Love ~Confide to the Maple~ is a bishoujo visual novel developed and published by SP-time. You (mostly) take on the role of Guo Hengyi, a high school teenager who is in his final year of high school and has a romantic relationship with Yao Fengyi, his childhood sweetheart. However, they keep their relationship a secret, so no one gossips about them. Although they (along with Fengyi's twin sister, Fengxi) have been in classes together), this year, they end up being in different classes. Then comes Tang Haiyin, a mysterious black-haired beauty who ends up being deskmates with Hengyi. Hengyi can't help getting close to Haiyin, feeling that there's just something about her, and he wants to find out what that is. Despite Haiyin's presence, Hengyi continues to maintain his relationships with Fengyi and Fengxi, and everything seems to be going well. They (along with Hengyi's best friend, Tingtao) decide to form a drama club as a way to preserve their high school memories. However, a couple of tragic incidents that occur later threaten the harmony among this group of teenagers, and as I'm in danger of going into spoiler territory, I'll stop my synopsis here. Story of a male student and its school life who eventually falls in love. Many decisions to take, a couple of female characters who the protagonist has to choose from, and great good and bad endings. Story is definitely far from generic and has quite a few very interesting twists. It is well written, with lots of ups and downs, with quite a few funny moments intersped with times of great sadness. Lovely and well drawn artwork and CGs. My only issue with it is that the background NPCs are exaggerated a little too much and sometimes out of place, for the sake of comic effects. Great music though could use a little more variety of soundtracks. The main issue with the novel is its rather poor English translation. It is in general understandable, so if you do not understand it I still recommend getting it, though as someone who can understand spoken Chinese, there are many moments where context is lost to some degree. Given the low price and the long and engaging story line, I do still think is great value besides its shortcomings. Rating: 8/10 based on the English translation alone, 9/10 ignoring it.5 found this helpful

This was kind of challenging for me to rate, for reasons I'll go into below. If there was a neutral middle option I'd have gone with that, but since Steam only has the option to give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down, then I'll give True Love: Confide to the Maple a tentatively positive rating. Here's the thing: this VN has a lot of good stuff going for it. Gorgeous art, great soundtrack, a variety of characters, and plenty of emotional moments that I did get invested in. But at the same time, there were some things that could be rather odd - some of the narrative choices, for example, just made me sit there and think: is that really what we're going with? And sometimes, in true anime-style fashion, the protagonist (Guo Hengyi) can be a little exasperatingly dense. But I decided to stick with it and part of me is glad that I did, mainly just to get Fengxi's good ending. However, I'm content to just leave it there - I can't see myself playing any further to try to get any other endings as I'm not really interested in doing so, for the reason I'm about to go into next... The English translation: quite a few reviews have already mentioned this, but the English localisation is of poor …
