About Two Falls (Nishu Takuatshina)

Two Falls (Nishu Takuatshina) is a first-person single player, narrative-driven experience that presents contrasting perspectives on French and Indigenous first encounters. Be prepared to face the dangers of Canadian wilderness and to make choices that could affect your characters.

Explore 17th century Canadian wilderness in this 3D linear game and experience the intertwining journeys of Jeanne, a French King’s Daughter stranded far from the French colonies and Maikan, a young Innu hunter trying to uncover what is disturbing his native forest, land of his ancestors.
Jeanne is a strong-willed French woman who set sail to the colonies of Nouvelle-France, hoping to start a better life overseas. After her ship runs aground, she and the dog Capitaine emerge as its sole survivors. Forced to weather the dangers of Canada’s uncharted wilderness, her faith in God will be tested as she makes her way to Quebec. Will she remain a Saint in the face of impossible odds? Or commit grave sins for the sake of survival?
A young hunter-gatherer from an isolated Innu community, Maikan is the great-grandson of a medicine man, and has never known what life was before the arrival of white men. After discovering a sinister phenomenon that threatens the future of his people, he sets off on a journey west, hoping to uncover the mystery behind the land’s defilement. Tradition will guide his path through unfamiliar wilderness. But nothing can prepare him for first contact with the outsiders.

Will you dare to experience this thrilling and enthralling mystery?
As you play through Two Falls, you'll uncover the distinct realities and cultures of Jeanne and Maikan, each with their unique perspective on life. With two distinct artistic and musical directions, you'll interpret the events from their points of view and discover that a single event can have vastly different meanings for each character.

The game's mechanics serve the story, with detective-like scene inspections and exploration of unique 17th-century environments. With each decision, you'll be drawn deeper into the story, questioning your own beliefs and becoming fully immersed in the historical inspirations of the game.
While the story of Two Falls follows a linear path, your choices and actions within the game will have an impact on how Jeanne and Maikan evolve throughout their journey. As they come to terms with the upheaval of their familiar world, you'll feel their struggles and triumphs in a deeply immersive experience.
Two Falls is a game about Indigenous stories, created in collaboration with Indigenous creative minds.
The composer (Eadsé), art director, writer, some actors and 3D artists all come from various Native communities from Canada.
We also work with a Council of Elders composed of First Nations members, who advise, guide, and explain which versions of the story they want to put forward.

Two Falls is a story told through a game.
  • Visit breathtaking and immersive environments crafted with Unreal Engine 5.
  • Immerse yourself in the adventure through two unique perspectives, with distinct artistic and sound directions.
  • Meet fascinating and contrasting characters that will challenge your beliefs and values.
  • Unfold a rich, captivating, and emotionally charged storyline.
  • Interact with a lovable canine companion that will accompany you on your journey.
  • Enjoy an authentic and original soundtrack created by a talented Indigenous musician and singer.

I'll start off with the somewhat obvious- this is a narrative driven walking simulator. You will not have free open-world exploration, but there are discoveries that you will miss if you rush through and do not explore what the game allows you to explore. Look for white circles that turn into either an eye (discovery or story progression), or an arrow (travel). The game is on rails- you do have choices in dialogue choices, but they will not affect the outcome, only the personality and "character of the character". They open up different dialogues with NPCs (make manual backups if you want to see them without replaying the game). Second- if you don't have an open mind and aren't willing to learn history from a perspective that may not have been taught to you at school- this won't be the game for you. It is historical fiction- the story you are being told by the characters is fictional, based on historical facts, many of which have been pushed aside and whitewashed over time. Yes, there are morals to the story. Cut there are some good provable facts, most of which are passed on in the Codex. The Codex involves a lot of reading- if you hate reading, this game isn't going to be for y…

Pretty nice little game. It might be very slow in some parts but that's how it is, it is mostly a linear story/walking simulator, no puzzles, no QTE, the choices you make I don't think will affect the story at all, but might change some dialogues. Many cool spots where to admire nature. I played it in French to keep practicing the language, good voice acting, good theme.

It's a pretty good game, its got a nice style and the voice acting is great. The general story is also really fun to explore. I feel like the winter spirit was never really resolved and an overall lackluster ending but if its on sale I recommend buying it. It's not the best optimized so do watch out for that.

Visually pleasing short story about early colonies in Canada. The story is enjoyable and features a variety of recognizable tropes of characters. The game is trying to convey a very simple message and doesn't overstay its welcome. If you are enjoy walking sims this one is a certain recommendation and a hidden gem in my opinion.
