About Under the Water Depths

What will the depths of the sea be like? And more importantly, what is in them?

Under the Water Depths is a first-person game in which you will dive into a trench in the middle of an unknown ocean. The depths of the sea hide sinister yet mystical secrets that invite to explore them. However, to do so, you must learn to navigate through its ecosystem, discovering its terrain's and its peculiarities while adapting to the oppressive atmosphere of the environment.

Features:
  • Explore the depths of a sea trench in total darkness.
  • Keep an eye on your flashlight's battery and use the sonar effectively to orient yourself.
  • Feel the pressure of sea creatures lurking in the darkness.
  • Enjoy suspense without violence: losing isn't an option here, if you are lost you just need to find your way.

Note: Under the Water Depths is a prototype resulting from a project done by students Lia Puigmitjà, Agustín Kohan, and Victor Langa during the 2022/23 academic year at the Barcelona Institute of Technology.

Before you play this game, know that there isn't really any direction. You're just supposed to go into an abyss and search for stuff. In my short amount of time playing this prototype, I did not have fun. There is just so much blank space, and you're way too slow. Also, there is a flashlight mechanic which I never fully understood, so I ran of of battery and had to use sonar for like 10 minutes. In the end, I never even found the fish that attacks you as it was shown in the trailer, and will not be coming back to do so. FINAL RATING: 3.5 / 10

That wouldn't be so bad, but I spent about 10 minutes looking for the path ahead and gave up. After 300 meters, I still couldn't figure out which way to go. It's too dark; the flashlight is useless. Maybe they shouldn't have hidden the path so much; that would be nice. More free games: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45031235-Best-free-hidden-gems-and-unique-game/

"Under the Water Depths" is a student project self-published on Steam Direct. It's from Barcelona Institute of Technology in Spain. This is the result of an academic exercise for students. It's not a full, complete game in the way professionally developed products are. While it has more quality than most amateur games, it's not a complete gaming experience. Student projects have limited value for gamers because they're not fully developed games, just barely functional demos that show the students progress. Steam is not a place for for-profit colleges to dump student homework assignments... and having thousands of these is not good for gamers. The students made a rather poorly presented adventure game where you explore an ocean trench with a flashlight and a sonarr to warn you about critters coming to get you. The quality is abysmal, even for a student project. It's unpolished and feels incomplete. If you're looking for this kind of game, maybe try Abzu or Beyond Blue. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high qu…

Besides the water trench I think that the light from going out is to turn it off. Note: Finding the way down is making me very nervous I tried to make it alive without getting attacked by angler fish. The reason that I'm having difficulty swimming in the ocean is wanting to prevent the fish from coming towards me. I still do not know how you reach the bottom in the game.
