Urban Pirate

[i]Interestingly, a Steam friend gave me a key to this game and said 'my friend is the developer, maybe you will write up a review'. I thanked them and took the key, but realistically thought I wouldn't be reviewing because getting random keys usually ends up in a negative review (I didn't ask for it and lord knows I'm picky). Bottom line is that the outcome is usually bad for all involved. But regardless, I would at least give it a try.[/i] [b]So I load up [i]Urban Pirate[/i], and wow, this is something really unique and special.[/b] I am quite impressed. It has some truly fantastic artwork and music, and there is TLC everywhere you look. This title has some great personality. [i]Essentially, this is a time management game with persistent unlocks and a sort of campaign mode.[/i] You play as a hobo/street urchin and need to manage your stats such as health (turns), hunger, and sanity. You can make money, steal, fight, and more. The main game is basically turn-based, but the minigames are not. It's all very well done. I will also add that there is serious meat-on-the-bone here. I think this is one of the best games I ever played in my life. It's inspiring, in some kind of way. This game is made by one guy I think, which name is amazing... Baby Duka... wft man, you're a genious! The OST is incredible, I listen to it often in my library... I mean I can't play the game all the time when I want to ear the shoplift theme....!! I don't want to make any spoilers, but... this is a game about chainging life, about chainging point of view... I think anyone should complete Sheep City once in a lifetime... at least. Give it a try... with a different mindset... and some weed, maybe. Have a nice time.

There is no other game like Urban Pirate when it comes to setting and style, and the gameplay is well thought thru and engaging. The art is amazing, and the setting has just never been explored as well as this. Get it! (I've played thru itch.io mostly thus the low play time)

Addictive, fun. Great mini games. Good vibes and great soundtrack worth it for that alone!. Highly Recommended! The game is challenging at first (I guess like being broke on the street) and you may end up hanging yourself a few times before you get the hang of it. The story and mini games are well worth it though so stick in there.

Urban Pirate is a small, very indie urban survival simulation focused on a deliberately marginal way of life. You scavenge for food, squat buildings, skate, party, and try to keep yourself together under steadily tightening police surveillance. The game’s strongest feature is its aesthetic: smudgy, rebellious pixel art and blocky, repetitive music that together create an oddly innocent tone, even when the actions themselves are illegal. For a time, this framing makes the simulation feel sympathetic rather than provocative. As a simulation, the daily routines are clear but rigid. Progress comes through new skills and locations, while pressure increases in the form of longer levels and stricter enforcement. Over time, these routines begin to dominate the experience, and without a narrative structure the simulation can start to feel mechanical and purposeless. Urban Pirate is at its best as a compact urban life simulation — an unusual and honest portrayal of survival on the margins, even if it struggles to maintain engagement over the long term.
