Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice

The game is OK. I never used stealthy tactics, I just killed everyone, which is pretty easy. The graphics are good enough. If you search for something like Thief or Hitman, this might be for you, but you won't have as many options, since the levels are very linear. There are not many alternatives to choose from. It took me 11 hours to beat the game.

Played on Meta Quest 3 via Link cable (which ran into a really prevalent crash-on-launch issue). Let me preface by saying I'm not the most staunch VtM / World of Darkness fan, so I'll skip commenting on the game's faithfulness to the lore in this review. [b]This game is at 64% "Mixed" rating on Steam right now -- I'd really like to give it a yellow Mixed review myself. Alas there isn't such a thing on Steam.[/b] First of all, it's was a massive pain with the issue of constant crashing on attempting to launch the game (UE4 engine error). I could luckily work around it by taking off my headset first and [b]only[/b] launching via my Steam Library page - seems to not work either if I launch via desktop shortcut. This is the first game I've had such an issue on, and I'm absolutely unsure as to what exactly is the cause, but I've not tried playing wirelessly with the Steam Link app. Alas I haven't managed to find a solution online to this problem. Otherwise, I've also encountered gameplay impairing bugs during my playthrough. Absolutely broken game. The sheer amount of bugs and constant crashing is unbearable (that's the main reason I decided to write this review). The developers were too busy promoting merch for a game that basically nobody even bought instead of actually fixing this broken mess. Boring combat system, the unlockable skills are completely uncreative — you suck more blood, you can disable cameras by shooting them, and so on. The story and characters are forgettable, with only occasional lore drops. And I won't even get into the fact that the absolute majority of characters in the game are non-white and female — both the main characters and the regular generic enemies. It's extremely immersion-breaking. The only thing that still keeps me playing this outrageous piece of ♥♥♥♥ is my fanatical obsession with achievements. To anyone else, I'd strongly recommend staying miles away from this trash.

I got it when it was on sale for $5.99. For that price it's worth it. I had fun for what it was. Love the stealth aspects of it. And the puzzles part at the end. Recommend it on sale. 5 out 5 stars.

Honestly, this is one of the better VTM games there is, and one of the best VR games I've played (which isn't many). Sort of like a lightweight Dishonored, vampire-powering through these stealth missions is good fun. The odd set-piece-y section that gets away from this can be annoying, especially when you're pushed into combat. But, core stealthing is a thrill, and the Venice setting has some great vibes.
