What Steam players say

Varial is a free arcade skating game with stylish visuals and creative trick mechanics that show promise, but players consistently report that the gameplay feels unfinished and janky, with significant bugs including camera issues and character control problems that make it difficult to play. While the art direction and concept have merit, the execution falls short of top-tier gameplay, and players note the lack of updates since launch suggests the game won't improve beyond its current rough state.
Camera angle got stuck looking down at my feet after I did a trick on a halfpipe during the tutorial. When I came down, I couldn't readjust the angle, neither with my mouse, the wsda keys, or the q key which recenters the camera angle to the original default view. The game was effectively unplayable at this point.3 found this helpful
"Varial" is an arcade skating game, a bit more shallow than the Tony Hawk games but free, and on Steam. There's a weird plot attached to it, but the crux of the game is doing skateboard tricks. Like, the Varial, which is a combination of a shove-it and a kickflip that just makes the board spin around under you. Skateboarders love it. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's v…2 found this helpful
I thought the maneuvers were cool, but the movement and maneuvering time are crap (no offense), but the mechanics are cool. The problem is that the game seems like it was made in a hurry, and they couldn't finish it. If they want to make a good game with more development, that's how they'll make real money and gain recognition.
This definitely screams "made by artists and not many game developers". It's a very stylish game with some cool visuals and animations, but the gameplay feels unfinished and janky. If this had some more time in the oven, and maybe a few more people working on the game itself, it could be something really cool. Unfortunately I could not finish the game because my character suddenly stopped being able to turn around, so I cannot comment on the ending. Overall there is really something here, just needed more time to cook and fully finish.
After finishing this game.... Wow it just sucks. there are so many graphical glitches, the animations suck, the entire point of the game (being skateboarding) is done awfully and the system you use is basically nonexistent. there are so many reasons not to play this game. Do not let it deter you, just because its free, doesn't mean it has the right to be this bad. Plus, everyone else reviewing it positively, saying the idea is good but the execution is bad and maybe itll get better? Don't believe them, there have been no updates since the game launched, its not going to get any better. To summarize, don't play this trash.
Good job team
