About Veterum

Ancient wilds have awakened. Insane prophets predict a coming apocalypse. Blood cults openly perform sacrifices... You will lead the last army of the Order of the Gatekeepers and stop the coming chaos. Not just humans are ready to join your banners, but also tough dwarves, mysterious elvers and half-wild turans. But keep in mind that not everyone will be happy to fight side by side with other races.Travel across an open world full of mysteries and dangers. Complete quests. Find rare artifacts and equip your soldiers with them. Improve unit stats, learn new active and passive skills.
Show your tactical genius in challenging turn-based battles. For each battle, choose the fighters who are most suited to take on specific opponents. Consider unit line of sight, facing, morale and accumulated fatigue. Change the battlefield: build barricades, dig ditches, freeze rivers, chop down trees. When fighting night creatures, make fire and light the battlefield. Crush your enemies with all the power of iron and magic!
  • Detailed combat system takes into account unit morale and fatigue, as well as facing and line of sight, level of illumination of each cell of the battlefield, weather effects and much more.
  • Interactive environment: almost every object on the battlefield can be interacted with.
  • Before the start of the battle, you can use one-time scrolls to make it rain, poison enemies or build a catapult.
  • Open world: despite the presence of a story campaign, you decide where to send your army.
  • Each playthrough is unique: quests, random battles, goods in cities and much more are all randomly generated.
  • Ability to adjust the game to your liking: choose the overall difficulty level plus adjust hit chance, the amount of HP, rewards received and much more.
  • Convenient unit and map editor. You can create your own missions and share them with other players.

👍 Recommended (4.5/5 Stars) I bought this thinking I'd casually command a band of mercenaries. Instead, I accidentally became the HR manager for 24 emotionally fragile medieval employees. One guy gets promoted after killing three bandits. Another trips over a rock, gets stabbed by a peasant with a pitchfork, and suddenly I'm loading my last save while questioning every life decision that led me here. The ability to rename your soldiers is one of my favorite features. It sounds simple, but it's amazing how much more you care when "Generic Spearman #7" becomes "Sir Bonks-a-Lot." Watching him survive impossible odds is glorious. Watching him get instantly deleted by RNG is... significantly less glorious. What I really enjoy: The interface is clean and easy to learn. The turn-based mechanics feel satisfying and tactical. Battles stay fresh thanks to varied enemies, landscapes, and procedural generation. Character abilities are fun to experiment with. Managing a growing company of up to 24 soldiers makes you feel like you're leading an actual mercenary army. The procedural generation is a double-edged sword. It gives the game fantastic replayability because every campaign feels …

Love it. Prefer it to Battle Brothers.

Fun and tactically interesting. I would like the various mercenaries to be more diverse—not just in terms of stats, but visually too (even if it’s just a variation in their portraits); otherwise, no real... "bond" is formed.

This game is strange. It's full of missing QoL, quirky as heck, and yet I love it. I've been trying to compile a little list of things I'd love to see added to the game, and will finish with what I believe are the reasons I really like the game, and which hopefully will NOT be changed. :) Room for improvement: * I'd really like to be able to skip the first tutorial mission every time I start a new run. I do start new runs a lot, something which intrinsically is a good thing, so it would be nice to make that process a little smoother. At least we can skip the massive tutorial tips, so there's that. * During combat, I wish there was an easier way to check the status on all your soldiers. Something like a list of them along the left or bottom margin of the screen, both for ease of selection and for an easy overview of their status. Who needs the heal the most? It's hard to see health bars against the background, so I always end up cycling through everyone with TAB. This would've been so much eaier with a soldier list in the UI. * Strange wording. Is this a translation thing? Some of the texts that drive the story are so strangely written that I sometimes wonder if it's AI translat…

Yep, good game. Battle Brothers with spells. Decent amount of substance there already. I'm looking forward to future content to add more.
