This game is quite unfinished as of April 2022, even though it's billed as a 1.0

Turn on game, bug: the left 1/4 of the game window is cut off.
Try playing, 5 minutes in, bug: walk upstairs of hotel, game freezes and gives me an error and forces me to restart (I was not able to save before this point)
Restarting, I try to submit a bug in game, bug: character sprite is gone.
Minor gripes: Controller doesn't work well with this game out of the box, walking around feels odd, and trying to press the equivalent of A button to interact with anything feels off. I am excited for the finished game, so I'll revisit Village Monsters when it's more polished.

A game with great potential, but with game breaking bugs. If the dev ever comes back to fix it, it could be amazing, and I will change my review accordingly. So far, however, they haven't. So don't waste your money.

I got this game on itch.io years ago when it was considered early access and was so delighted by it. I like the characters and the cozy gameplay. I was excited when the update came out, but it seems to have made the game unplayable. It crashed when I tried to do simple things or enter new screens. There is no way to progress with so many bugs. I've waited for any news that it is being worked on, but the dev has been silent since 2023 and we have just entered 2025, so my hopes are dashed. I'd probably love this game if it could be played, but, as of now, it seems like a dead project and it would be a waste of money to buy it as it is. Josh Bossie, if you're out there, I'm rooting for you to update the game/fix bugs so I can come back and change this review to a positive one. I'm not leaving this review to hate on this project, but rather to say I want it to succeed.

Bought this on kickstarter, game crashed upon first play. Still hasn't been patched and the dev seems to have abandoned it. Another regrettable purchase.

The game was half-decent in Early Access, I played it, not the best, but pretty good and well. The game is now released and I realize it's been pretty not good at first, but with all the updates and fixes happening and going on, and with them steadily coming and improving the game, I'm sure it's getting much better. I have high hopes for this game, since I really enjoyed it in EA. I'm hoping the game continues to steadily improve, as this is a work of love by a singular Dev that from the sounds of it has been working non-stop and tirelessly to get things working properly. I do think this game might not be the best on the market, but it is extremely far from the worst. It is a good game and certainly worth the cost, especially on a sale. I would advise getting this game, cause it's only going to get better from here.

No fullscreen, no settings, unskippable cutscenes, rudimentary customisation... crashed once and froze twice for no reason (years ago and now, right after skipping the second/skippable cutscene making it unplayable)... so it is still in a sorry state after so many years. O.o
