"Virion" is a really badly made 2D top down twin stick combat game with no content or reason for anyone to play it. You control a robot made in MS-Paint and run around procgen levels killing stuff that was also made in MS-Paint. So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. In terms of visuals, this features really godawful MS-Paint tier "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. …

"Virion" is an engaging top-down shooter that offers significant replay value through its various mods, enabling players to discover their preferred play style. I have completed the first level, but I found the virus upgrade to be less effective than I anticipated. The robots certainly stick to their programming. Overall, I enjoy this game, particularly for its replayability. If there's one takeaway from this review, it's to give the game a try.

This is a fun top down shooter, the mods give it replay value and allow you to find what play style suits you best. This was covered as part of this week's episode of Free2Play Weekly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1m4-LHqPgQ&t=685

Played game, passed first level. The virus upgrade wasn't as useful as I hoped it would be. Robots gotta robot.
