About Rogue Invader

In Rogue Invader, YOU are the invader attacking the alien horde in this genre-flipping roguelite shooter. 1-Bit black and white old-school art style, with modern touches and HD graphics.

Twenty years ago, the Zenos began invading Terran colonies, leaving a trail of death and tears in their wake. Terrans fought back, one planet at a time, while building a fleet to stab at the Zeno home-world.

You arrive with that fleet, just after a series of massive space battles in which all supply ships have been destroyed. You are left with a huge invasion army but no supplies to invade with other than one drop-pod, and one pistol.

Your standing orders are clear: END THIS WAR!

What a hidden gem. This game does an amazing job of making a rogue-like experience where the progression truly feels earned and has an in-universe explanation. Playing by-the-numbers space soldiers is incredibly fun. What makes it even cooler is that buildings you destroy in one run will be broken in the following run, but in the process of being rebuilt, which just feels cool and makes it both more immersive and means that each run can be impactful - Is there mortar that's making advancing difficult? Then make it one life's goal to take down the mortar so that the next run(s) might be able to get further.. This is a very unique experience that I highly recommend for anyone even casually interested in the concept. Note: It can be very unforgiving - the slightest mistake can mean the death of your character - however, it rarely feels unfair.

Rogue Invader is an adrenaline-fueled journey through space that had me hooked from the moment I blasted off into the unknown. What sets this game apart is not just its addictive gameplay and retro-inspired visuals, but also the unique experience of having the developer watch me play during my livestream. From the intense firefights to the heart-pounding moments of exploration, Rogue Invader delivers non-stop excitement and thrills. The gameplay is fast-paced and challenging, with each run offering a new opportunity to hone my skills and tackle the ever-changing alien threat. But what truly made my experience special was the developer interaction. Knowing that the creator of the game was watching me play added an extra layer of excitement and immersion to the experience. It felt like a truly collaborative effort, with the developer cheering me on and offering tips and insights as I navigated through the game's dangerous terrain. In addition to its engaging gameplay and developer interaction, Rogue Invader also boasts a fantastic soundtrack that perfectly complements the action on screen. The retro-inspired music kept me pumped up and ready for action, adding to the overall inten…

It's good. Feels like a very polished Newgrounds game, but the animations and effects (explosions) are way better than what could be done in Flash. A 2-bit filter with dithering over a 2D landscape and 3D models, if I am not mistaken. tl;dr: it looks good. Shares some similarities with SYNTHETIK (tactical combat, weapon mods), Rogue Legacy (permanent upgrades purchased with collected resources after death) and Dark Souls (the leading cause of death is rolling off the edge of a cliff). Weapons feel good to use, especially explosives. Randomization is minimal, so it can get kind of repetitive. Could use more bosses. The humor is hit or miss – more often a miss. Not too tough unless you're aiming for a hard difficulty, single drop victory, which can get slightly frustrating. Normal is very easy, but it's presented as such – 'for players not used to action games', or something in that vein. Had a lot of fun. A very solid 7/10.

Initial impression: hilarious writing, fun and challenging, drop, shoot, die, rinse, repeat. A couple hours later: this is awesome! I need more guns!!!

Helldivers-xcom-lite; Taking the alien homeworld literally one soldier at a time, all the while the sassy alien overlord teases you; Its great.

Good idea in theory, but some of the jank is too hard. When your only guide for achievements cites how easy it is to accidentally have the game drop you down a pit as the #1 run killer, you need to patch your game.
