About Wacky Spores: The Chase

Wacky Spores: The Chase is a colorful RPG runner which combines the strategy of turn-based battles with the taste of directly aiming your shots in an endless runner style.

Story

A story? Let's see...

It looks like Roland, the King of the Bugs, has just stolen one of the Keeper of the Warmth from the Mushrooms. Be a hero, do hero stuff and get that artifact back!
How does it sound?

Gameplay

Each area of the game is an endless turn-based battle in which you'll have to defeat dozens of enemies instead of the standard handful, and try to go as far as possible.

In Wacky Spores: The Chase you don't just select your targets like other turn-based games, you manually aim weapons and abilities so that you can maximize the enemies hit and the damage done.
Winning a battle requires simple tactical choices like deciding which character to bring in the battlefield, choosing the right weapon for the right monster, deciding when to disable enemies and when to just attack, using items and abilities, etc.
When it's the enemies turn they will move, attack and cast in real time and you'll move the three characters together to dodge bullets.

In every battle you collect coins by picking them up or by completing quests. The more coins you get the faster you level up unlocking more characters, weapons, artifacts etc, which in turn will push you further in every battle.

What you get

  • Easy to pick up but deep gameplay: just pick a weapon and start running.
  • Tactical depth and manual aiming: move enemies around the battlefield to arrange them for the perfect shot, disable some of them or just obliterate them!
  • Unlock a buckton of stuff : over 20 different enemies and bosses, 10 different characters, 12 weapons, 12 artifacts and 10 items that drastically change the way you play.
  • Complete quests and pick up coins: how else would you unlock those goodies?
  • Move your party in real time: position them for the next turn and dodge bullets.
  • Play in a nice, colorful world, full of humour, popular culture references and supercute characters.
  • Full 7 tracks original soundtrack by me!

Wacky Spores: The Chase is a playful and experimental indie title that thrives on blending familiar genres into something unexpectedly distinctive. Developed and published by Lorenzo Bellincampi, the game combines elements of endless runners, tactical combat, and light role-playing progression into a single, whimsical package. Rather than committing fully to one established formula, it leans into its hybrid identity, offering an experience that feels curious, inventive, and clearly driven by a desire to try something different rather than simply refine an existing genre. The premise is intentionally lighthearted and humorous. A stolen artifact and a runaway King of the Bugs provide the excuse for an endless pursuit through a colorful, mushroom-filled world. The narrative never takes itself seriously, instead relying on playful dialogue and self-aware humor to keep things engaging without weighing the game down with lore or exposition. This tone carries through the entire experience, framing every encounter as part of a cheerful chase rather than a high-stakes conflict. Gameplay is where Wacky Spores: The Chase distinguishes itself most clearly. Players control a small team of mus…

Truly an odd game. Surely something you wont see in the front page (I met the developer, so thats why i bought it) Its an almagamation of weird humour, very addictive gameplay, and most importantly, replayable. Definetly a good experience, i reccomend (DEFINETLY NOT A BIASED REVIEW)

This is an unusual turn based/soldier defense/twin stick shooter hybrid game (the developer describes it as an RPG runner, it is neither). Move your units during the movement turn to avoid the obstacles, then when it's your turn, select a weapon and shoot the baddies in the style of a twin stick shooter. For some reason you are cartoony mushroom people fighting bees and things. This looks and feels like a tablet game. Resolution and controls are locked and can't be changed, so the game falls far beneath minimum standards for PC. The gameplay is really... confused, it doesn't know what it wants to be. As a shooter, it's terrible, as a strategy game, it's terrible. There's a nonsensical $13 price tag for what feels like an app store reject, yet this is on PC.

What a supercute game! I'm in love with ALL the characters (OMG Spoon is my favourite!). Start playing it and you'll never want to stop: what would be the next bugs (meaning the tiny enemies, not "game bugs"!)? What character will be the next bugboss (this game is full of pop culture citations! Love it!)? Totally filling my days with colours, cuteness and smiles!

Wacky Spores: The Chase is a very nice little game! While it has some touches of casual gaming it still is deep enough to entertain you for some hours. I definitely recommend Wacky Spores: The Chase if you ilke simple but deep games with cute graphics

Here's my review about Wacky Spores. I liked this game very much because RPG's are one of my favourite type of games but this one has something different; endless runner's and strategic game mechanics make the game flow interesting and challenging, because you have to find always different ways to win your battles. The graphics is very cute and animations too. Everything is simple but well realized for being an "one man game". Last but not least, developer's descriptions about the game are funny and well written. I recommend this game if you usually play this genre but looking for something a little bit different. I wish you my best as developer and I'll wait for new games! Ally Sinnlig
