Wantless : Solace at World’s End

Nice concept, nice lore and story, nice art, good gameplay... but... it's a mobile-style grindy game. It feels - and I bet it's intentionally designed this way — like a mobile grind/incremental game. Progress is very slow, and it gets even slower in the late game. The main issue... is the game's core concept. This game plays almost like an idle/incremental game. It's like 15% tactics, 15% planning/deckbuilding, 10% story and lore, and 60% GRIND. I'll explain how the progression works, and you'll get it immediately. You have something like a "Heal 1" skill. It can be Common, Uncommon, Rare, etc. And to improve it... you have to find another "Heal 1" skill and merge them: "Heal 1" + "Heal 1" → "Heal 2" But to craft it, you have to spend resources... and those resources also have to be earned during your runs. And you can't just replace "Heal 1" with "Heal 2", because first you have to upgrade your Discipline... So basically, it's the worst kind of mobile-chinese-grindy-trash design: a ton of different currencies that are constantly being converted into one another. This game is grindy BY DESIGN. And the value you get from smart tactics is much lower than simply upgradin…

The setting is interesting and atmospheric while the gameplay is good. It's basically going into small mini-dungeons, playing a capable tactical game inside, getting loot, upgrading, then repeat.

It's good until endgame at which point it becomes an unituitive buggy mess of random effects and stupid damage checks

I really love the concept of the game. It feels very different from most turn-based games. I will admit I was a bit annoyed that the game didn’t explain certain concepts properly, but maybe that’s part of the charm for others. Honestly, there are still some things I don’t fully understand. I completed the main story and am still playing the endgame, so I can’t quite comment on the game’s replayability. However, I can see myself playing maybe one more round—mostly because I really want to tackle all the unplayed games in my library. XD.

Hidden gem.

Played this at the beginning of Early Access and to my shame didn't do a recommendation review at that time. Recently replayed the full version. Tl;dr highly recommend if you're into tactical games. I really enjoyed the game (and truth be told had to stop myself from enjoying it more). It is, in essence, a PoE/Diablo style loot grind game with a very unique "itemisation" in a form of skill crafting and turn-based tactical combat rather than arpg one. Once you finish the story you unlock pretty much endless grind postgame with several bossess and are free to continue to power up and optimize your character. The extra challenge is provided by seemingly unlimited power modifier on top of extra modifiers from "patients rarity". There is A TON you can optimize about your character so it is extremely easy to fall into the rabbit hole. And there's a plethora of different playstiles available to try and optimize for with little restriction (you can do everything on one save/character).
