awful unplayable ****
Westboro is a small-scale indie action RPG that aims to depict a harsh and collapsing future shaped by scarcity, violence, and corporate control. Developed by Chernov Vyacheslav and published under the same name, the game is set in the year 2039, a time when access to clean water has become the most valuable resource on the planet. This premise establishes a bleak dystopian backdrop that immediately signals a world defined by desperation rather than heroism, and while the game’s ambitions often exceed its technical reach, its commitment to atmosphere and survival-driven tension gives it a distinct identity within the indie RPG space. Gameplay unfolds from an isometric perspective and centers on real-time combat and exploration. Movement and actions are largely controlled through mouse input, giving the experience a point-and-click feel that blends shooter mechanics with light role-playing elements. Combat is direct and unforgiving, with enemies capable of dealing heavy damage if approached carelessly. Ammunition and healing resources are limited, forcing players to constantly weigh aggression against survival. While there are skills and abilities available, they function more as s…
Controls ruin the game sadly.
Westboro is a very solid game, well-made, runs very smoothly, has excellent weapons, and the combat is well-executed. However, the game does have its flaws. The camera is positioned a bit oddly, so you don’t always have the best view of what’s happening on the map, but the mini-map serves as your main tool for navigation. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews on Steam, but most of them are unfounded, as people clearly didn’t invest enough time or effort to understand how Westboro works. Someone complained that the game can’t be saved. It can, but you must not allow the camera to detect you as an intruder. If that happens, enemies will be sent after you indefinitely, and you won’t be able to save the game. However, if you avoid detection, the save function works just fine. Similarly, some people complain that they can’t properly control what happens in combat. The key is to press Shift during every fight so that your character stands still and shoots at enemies; otherwise, they will run around instead of attacking. Once you master these few details, the game becomes extremely good and enjoyable, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone.
Very unique game. I certainly suggest it to all fans of low cyberpunk settings.
